Flood, If I were to upgrade my processor to a better one, what would be the steps do doing so? I'm a novice at computer building and am probably not going to do it myself but I need advice from ya'll before I even start. I have a CyberPower PC, Prebuilt, I upgraded the PSU to 850W and graphics card to an EVGA Geforce 560 Ti

I'm running an AMD FX 4100 CPU Quad Core at 3.60 GHz on a Gigabyte GA-M68MT-S2 motherboard, with 8GB of RAM. The parts of my computer I want to keep are my Graphics card( EVGA Geforce 560 Ti) and my PSU, Other than that I'm open to upgrading everything else, before I venture into a new GPU, now I'm wondering if I did upgrade my motherboard, would that mean upgrading to a different type RAM as well?

I'm looking to play modern games for the next few years on my machine in 1080P on 1920x 1080 res. Thanks

"There's a very fine line between not listening, and not caring. I'd like to think that I walk that line every day."

Well, I don't think you really need anything better than a quad-core for the time being, as even system-demanding games likely won't need more than four cores, and mostly demand graphics processing power.

But, if you're dead-set on upgrading, you'll just have to make sure that you stick with an AM3+ core type (which is what your motherboard needs) and stay within the FX and Phenom II series.

If you change your motherboard, (maybe you chose Intel) you'll have to make sure everything else is compatible, which it will most likely be.

Someone with a lot of computer hardware knowledge should check my claims, though.

I like my computer as it is right now(financially lol) but I just can't stand how in some games my frame rates are very poor for example Black Ops 2 is kinda bad, about 30-40 FPS multiplayer. I even downloaded beta drivers for my GFX card to run it better, still not where it should be. BF3 plays nicely on high but framerates drop as I die in multiplayer as well as dropped framerates other times.

I guess it would be wise to stay in the AMD range

Yeah...lol well I realize AMD is kinda shat compared to intel. I'm just typing out loud. But if anyone had suggestions of what I should upgrade to if I go the intel route? (Keeping my GFX card and PSU)

Yes, I know my username is the 330th sequel to a terrible movie. You don't have to keep telling me.

You won't be using all four cores in your PC anytime soon, for I run most current-gen games just fine with my Phenom X2 550 Dual-core.

You better close this sig when your done.

Your OS might not like it if you change the motherboard. It could require a full re-installation if you change it.

blarg.

Make sure that whatever CPU you get fits in the same socket as your current one (A mistake I have actually seen before).

I don't know much about AMD CPU's, but they are generally pretty good with supporting old motherboards. But always triple check.

No signature found? Well that's odd!

Your best bet really is upgrading your GPU. Take a look at the GTX 660 Ti, it's a good card for a fair price.
