See the rapist.
I don't like rap.

*facepalm*

I got a used GTX 240, and whenever I play games on it, the fan doesn't turn on to keep it cool, which probably explains why my computer overheats and shuts off.

How do I get a fan to turn on? Is it controlled through the drivers or what?

BTW, there's no PCI-E power socket on the card, so it can't take in any more power I don't think.

Who cares if I lie?

Have you tried restarting your CPU?

I had a similar problem and all I had to do was reboot it. Let me know if this works OP.

I've rebooted my computer quite a bit and it still doesn't turn on.

It's probably broken. You bought an ancient video card.

Who cares? It ran Red Orchestra 2.

You should buy newer video cards as they use less power, and give better performance. Don't you have a weak PSU?

You should care because you bought it. I'm just saying it's old so the fan could just be broken.

I'm hesitant to invest in new cards because I'll be getting a laptop in August for college.

And I'm pretty sure 380 watts for my card is not weak.

This thread is much stranger and more awkward than any of my many films.

It's a minimum 300-watt card. You probably are using too much power in your system.

Don't some cards require a seperate power cable run right from the power supply?

I could be wrong, because I never used a graphics card that powerful.

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

Don't most high-end cards have utilities allowing you to tweak settings (clock speed, bus speed, fan thresholds and speed)?

I work for the Department of Defense.

OP, best advice is to download a program like MSI afterburner and just set the fan speed yourself.

See if you CAN, in real time turn it on and off.

That's all you need to do. I dunno why everyone keeps talking about power supply possibilities.

It could still be broken, that is an old model.
