Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.
Lots of emotions at play in this one.
The ticketing of the shooter for discharge of a firearm in town gives me the impression that this is not a very urban area. In a lot of rural areas, but still "in town" this would be a standard charge. She could also sue him for the loss of her animal.
I know, that highlights a huge difference between rural, suburban or even urban life and values.
