Subject: Bungie.next , Destiny, and profiles...

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Bungie.next promises to be an anticipated revamp of Bungie.net with Bungie's next title coming out. But, what does Bungie.next mean for profiles and how we use them?

The only thing we know right now is we will have the ability to change our name in some way with the update. That is huge right there because it gives individual users more control of their account and a willingness to keep that account instead of making another one to get another name.

Then we have to consider Destiny, the game described as "social at it's core". If that is true, then I am sure profiles on Bungie.next will have very different functions than today. Bungie.net has always been a part of Bungie's games for recording stats, media, and unlocking in-game items like nameplates.

But a game that is social at it's core rather than a typical shooter should have a lot more ways in which to connect people. I am thinking profiles will features like a clan system, an in-game messenger, or other ways to connect people. I also think based on that, not all of Bungie.next will be available until Destiny is closer to release.

Based on what destiny has been described from leaks and what we know currently, it sounds like profiles will hopefully serve a much greater purpose in the future and Bungie.next may connect people in ways much greater than what we have now. But what do you think and what features in Bungie.next would make sense to add to be usable for a game "social at it's core"? How do you think new features could add value to accounts?

I am just thinking about how much change is going to happen depending on what type of game Destiny is. If it is as social as it is reported to be, having a profile on Bungie.net could be very important in-game to connect to new people and find comrades .

I also giving us the ability to change our names is an effort to get us to want to keep our main accounts and gives users more ability to customize their experience here.

"I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle- victorious"

They're probably going to weave Destiny's features into the fabric of Bnet. I'm guessing that we're going to see a lot of faction related stuff in the future e.g. If you choose _______ faction, your Bnet account will automatically associate your profile with that faction. Also, I know this sounds crazy but I think that we might have forums limited to certain factions.

I don't think I've seen Achronos directly confirm username changes in the next build, I only thought it was an idea that he wanted to toy with possibly using Bungie Pro. Do you have a quote of the confirmation?

Honestly, I'm hoping for a full on revamp of private groups, integrating them into Bungie's next game. I think this would definitely bring a more social Bnet-to-game experience that Bungie keeps hinting at. I am not sure what changes could be made to user profiles that would opt for a more social experience than what we already have, but I'm sure they've already got some ideas of their own.

as long as we dont have 'like' or '+1' buttons/features i'll be happy

but i would like if Bnet played a larger role in Destiny than past games and id like private groups to get more focus than it is now

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Who said we'll be able to change our names?
Also, I think they will do stuff to improve private groups and maybe some other stuff. I wonder what they will bring.

Since we are using windows live login right now, I can see everyone re-registering on Bungie.next. So you would have to create a brand new profile, and create a username to join.

I completely forgot, but I remember Achronos said before Reach launched that he thought it would be interesting, and more rewarding, to integrate the Bnet title system into their games. I think it would be a great idea to transfer over what you do in game to here with customizable titles showing off what you have done in Bungie's next game, whether that's achievements or general play styles in title form. I think that would raise the value of one's account more than what the current title system does.

Please no connection to any social media. I don't use any of those.

Also us off-liners need to be able play the game without the use of internet connection.

EDIT:

Oh yeah a feature at the bottom of the page that says

Number of users online
Whether a user is online
Number of mods online
Whether specific mod is online, that way shananigans could be cut down to a minimum.

I think Gearbox has this for their site. Its a great feature.

At the very bottom.

Speaking of "a social game" I am most worried about finding groups my own age to play with. Many of my gaming pals have kids now, and it is hard to schedule gaming time.

E. g., I finally got to playing the DLC of borderlands, and I have only been playing that with 1 other person.

All I want is my own home page I can customize to my prefered b.net experience.

For me, it will be all the web cams. I'll set a few employee trackers so I know when Achronos, DeeJ and Halcylon post. And I'll be lucky to have more then five people in my comradery list, but that will be fine. Of course I can link my account to facebook, twitter, and Gmail+, so everyone that is not on b.net can follow my museings and quips I post. But most imporantly, everyone will know what a badass I am at Bungie's new game!

I'm not a fan of account renaming. I've been on several forums where this feature was introduced and it was a disaster each time. No one knew who certain people were anymore unless they put their previous name in their signature, but honestly, who looks at signatures?

I really doubt that everyone would have to create a new account for the new login system, or at least I hope it won't come to that. It really wouldn't make sense to have everyone start from scratch when there's been a lot of thought put into adding value to one's profile.

I wouldn't think that it would be too difficult to just migrate our information to the new system since it's all done through our emails, granted I'm not the most knowledgable on the subject.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

This is a great idea. I would love to see achievement related titles or avatars.

I can agree with this completely. Not only could private groups be seperated into the major factions that Destiny is going to behold, but because of this integration users could easily distinguish the differences between private groups and individual user profiles.

In other words, new improvements to the website would allow individuals to better learn and understand each other and discover each others' preferences through specific game traits.

We miss you Logan.
Ask any question. I'll help with anything on site or off.

If you have notice most of our updates, the new site design always relate to the past one. Like the 2008 site looks like the 09. The 09 looks like the 10 Ect. I'm hoping this update will be completely original, and not relate to the odd designs besides the avatar. I hope we also get a halo universe forum.

Welcome to the town of "Diligence." I'm Mayor Due.

I'm still hoping for B-harmony integration. For when those in game interactions need to reach the next level.
