They're probably going to weave Destiny's features into the fabric of Bnet. I'm guessing that we're going to see a lot of faction related stuff in the future e.g. If you choose _______ faction, your Bnet account will automatically associate your profile with that faction. Also, I know this sounds crazy but I think that we might have forums limited to certain factions.

I've been suspecting this, as well. It's a very logical next step to take.

It seems logical but let us see what Bungie has in store for us.

"social at its core".

That to me suggests tight integration with existing and new social mediums - Facebook, Twitter, etc... as well as utilising tools in bungie.next to communicate and share content with your friends.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I really hope not, I wouldn't want to create nor use Facebook/Twitter on Destiny. I would prefer if most of it was done through Bungie.net and Bungie.net is a one stop shop.

This. I really don't want Facebook and Twitter invading my AAA titles...

Not only social, don't forget Bungie seems to also have big plans for mobile. I'm hoping for something that connects the mobile site, the desktop site and Destiny in a unique, accessible way that we are accustomed to with Bungie.

What if there were an add-on/app for Facebook that could update you on what's happening in the game world while you're not even playing? What if you could play the game from a Facebook app?

What if you could tie your Bungie.net/Destiny account to your YouTube account and upload game clips directly from the console?

etc...

I'm with daza here. I think Bungie is smart enough to incorporate aspects of social media in certain parts of their next game that will add to the experience for those that want it without making it overkill. I don't think they will be "invading" your AAA titles.

To me, Bungie has never seemed to be the type of developer that integrates their console games into extra-company applications. Everything seems to, at least in terms of their prior games, come from within. This mostly speaks to the later installments Halo Franchise because things such as apps and social media sites weren't around in the beginning.

But if you look at it, Bungie has their Twitter and Facebook accounts to update us on what they can in this time of darkness. From Halo 3 moving forward, everything dealt with a Bungie.net origin. Yes, there may have been some codes to give out on Facebook or Twitter, but mass-social media site integration isn't Bungie's way (IMO, once again). I am always open to being wrong. I'll never be the most informed one, but I'll always have my take.

Perhaps it's just wishful thinking, but I don't see why Bungie would feel the need to integrate those external social mediums when we've already got a lot of social tools at our disposal here.

Private groups, along with a few other new site features, could basically do everything those sites could and more. Add few tweaks to make private groups and Bungie's next game intermingle, and you've already got yourself a very relevant and strong social network for the game.

The YouTube idea or yours is interesting, but I personally have no interest in integrating the other sites into my Bnet / gaming experience. I'd rather keep things, as Lobster Fish mentioned, traditionally internal to Bungie.

Forums, private groups, and private messages are the only tools we have, all of which are pretty archaic amongst the technology other services/sites you find nowadays.

Absolutely disagreed. Facebook, for instance, is by far the most popular social network in the world, not Bungie.net and not a Bungie.net private group. Further, my social network is not all comprised of Bungie.net users. How will they get to see what I've been up to?

I think Bungie has realised the potential and power of social networks in recent years with their use of Twitter and Facebook accounts. So I can only see that kind of usage/integration expanding and increasing in the future, especially where well-known and useful services like YouTube can be used.

As long as you can do those things from Bungie.net too I will be fine.

I'm not a fan of account renaming. I've been on several forums where this feature was introduced and it was a disaster each time. No one knew who certain people were anymore unless they put their previous name in their signature, but honestly, who looks at signatures?
I wouldn't mind as long as it's a once-off name change.

There just has to be ways to limit this - either through b.net, or directly through facebook / twitter / etc.

I have a lot of different groups plugged in through social media, and many of them are professional. They dont want to see what I am up to on my xbox, and I sure as hell dont want them knowing how much time I am spending on Bungie's next game.

If everything is displayed here, fine. If it can also be displayed through twitter, for example, I hope that I can - through twitter or through b.net - control which followers see things tagged as destiny.

I agree, too much social media integration feels like it intrudes on our individual provacy.

I think Bungie will be careful in drawing that line.

So long as Bungie removes the connection to Windows ID needed for an account, I'm pretty much happy. It'd also be really cool to see some kind of livechat channel in groups.

Posted by: dazarobboForums, private groups, and private messages may be somewhat archaic now but I'm anticipating that they will become more useful in the next update. Achronos has hinted at some major upgrades to those features, who's to say that they won't be improved to the point of being social focal points to Bungie's next game? It's just the speculation game.

I'm not arguing against Facebook being the most popular social network in the world. I'm saying that I don't think Bungie will need the external help from those sites. Traditionally they've created all the tools needed to do what they want for their games. That's something that I really appreciate Bungie for because it means that I don't have to go to too many place to get my Bungie fix.

Updating family and friends about my gaming life via those networking sites is one thing; the message, "social at its core", implies something much greater than just that. If Bungie chooses to go the Facebook / Twitter route, I really hope that they do it in a way that is not mandatory towards getting the most out of their next game. I'm the type of person that likes to keep my real life and internet life separated and compartmentalized for the most part. I doubt I'm the only one who feels this way.
