I work for the Department of Defense.

I don't want to see Matt Smith depart any time soon.

However, if I had to pick someone, Sherlock is a clear choice.

His performance on BBC's sherlock has gotten him so much attention lately. It would not shock me if Moffat attempted to ask him to play the part.

My vote is with Andrew Garfield, despite his earlier appearance on the show.

Earlier appearances is not a reason to exclude someone from portraying a Timelord.

Romana's regeneration allowed an actress from a previous arc to play the part (Lalla Ward who interestingly enough is married to Richard Dawkins and was previously married to Tom Baker, the 4th Doctor).

The Doctor's 6th incarnation was portrayed by the same actor (Colin Baker) who played a Gallifreyan guard in earlier episodes.

So there is precedence.

Never seen the show, never will see the show but the only answer to "who should be the next" threads is always Clive Owen.

Old Man Recon doesn't even give an opinion and just go's off on one of his tangents.

I want them to bring back Tennent or Eccelston as the Doctor, well at least I can wish they would.

Personally, I keep imagining that when the next change comes, that the Doctor suffers a "regeneration crisis" or something like that and we are taken back to his first incarnation as a young man. We then explore his days as a young and rebellious Time Lord, his time at university, how he was friends with The Master and The Rani, and all of that.... we could then have the "crisis" jump forward to where as an old man, he and the TARDIS mutually "steal" each other and his adventure begins.

Sort of like a Young Indiana Jones, only wibbley wobbly timey whimey.
