Places like Japan have the same entertainment (arguably even worse), same books, same mental disorders, etc. Yet they have like 11 gun murders per year. Sure you could make a case for culture, but I think the number that stands out is the gun ownership statistic. The US could do without assault rifles and some handguns. You don't need them to shoot deer.

2. Not a hand gun or hunting rifle

shotgun?
PDW?
SMG?

The term assault as defined by the federal government is a weapon using defined attachments. AR's have things like what you commonly see in video games like high capacity mags (10+), suppressors of any kind, rails, extendable or fold stocks, ect.

Thats why there are terms of assault-shotguns,handgun, ect.

shotguns are ok. no smgs.

what is pdw?

They call me graland.

I wish people actually knew what an assault rifle was before they called for them to be banned.

So a supressed glock is an assault weapon?

Personal Defence Weapon, ie: handguns or concealable weapons, weapons designed for a person to defend themself. dont call me on it being the exact definition though... its not eh point of the topic though.

-i find the suggestions here are laughable... its apparent alot of people aren't studied up on gun control.

This too.

The ignorance is appalling. Especially when those who are ignorant are calling for the enactment of new laws. It really is a case of afraid of what they don't understand.

I feel we really needed another one of these threads.

This.

Also, I'm a supporter of the second amendment. Laws only affect those who obey them. If you ban guns, only those who are law-abiding citizens will get rid of their guns. The crazy psychopaths who are planning on shooting up a school.. well, you can bet that they'll easily find access to a gun. In reference to the CT shooting, had those teachers been carrying firearms in their desks, the shooter could have been taken down sooner.

Plus, I'm sure if someone was planning on doing a shooting somewhere, knowing that the people around him were armed, he would probably think twice about doing it.

i disagree with you slightly on this.

i dont think teacher should have guns IN SCHOOL for these reasons:

1) they could go over board with it and use it unnecessarily
2) a student could get a hold of it.

though i do believe they should have a right to leave it in their car.

small, typically bullpup, and fire fairly small bullets/cartridges and are usually more accurate than powerful.

you need handguns to defend yourself. I'm not stupid enough to deny that fact.

And assault rifles are highly regulated under the 1986 Assault weapons 'ban.'

So, he thinks laws are fine as is. Awesome!

Why do people comment on things they know nothing about? The general public does not own assault rifles. An ar15 is not an assault rifle. By definition, an assault rifle is fully automatic or select fire. An ar15 is the most popular hunting rifle. Just because it is black and looks scary does not mean it is any different than any other hunting rifle.

It costs around $10,000 for a real assault rifle in the US and you have to get a special tax stamp.

I don't think your first point is true... I mean, yes, there could be a crazy teacher who shoots a student for no reason. But you can kill someone with a pencil too. But it this teacher is crazy enough to shoot a student, he or she is probably crazy enough to bring a gun to school regardless of the laws.

With the second point, I did think about that. It could be locked up with either a lock that only the teacher has a key to, or a digital lock that only the teacher would know the combo to.

1) they're plenty of them out there

2) it honestly wouldn't be hard for a student to find out some sort of secret code. secrets can go out REAL FAST.

if a teacher had a gun he or she is a BILLION times more tempted to use it than any other object to hurt a student.

and a digital lock? dont think some how and some way a student won't find it out.
