success is subjected to the society the word is used in.
It's a subjectively subjective subject really.

Also, The CEO is actually contributing to society. The homeless man is leaching off of society.

"Contributing", my ass. What's with all this recent emphasis on "contributing" to society? No one owes society anything. Everyone is contributing equally just by living.

Stop thinking like a teenager.

If you think society owes you nothing, you need to leave that cave you call your house.

Society doesn't owe anyone anything, and no one owes society anything. Teenagers have a lot of stuff right, actually. I guess I'm the only one who never stopped thinking like one.

So? Are you never gonna have a job?

  • 12.26.2012 4:22 PM PDT

Ah, I remember when I was 16 too.

So? Are you never gonna have a job?

Of course, but my employment status won't define me like it does for a lot of people.

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

That is the most phony, elitist thing I've ever read.

Status != value

but if you are in your desired career field, attaining a certain level in the hierarchy of that field is important because you are striving to get your dream.

Well apparently the person you listed (homeless) lets his job define him. Or else he would have a home

No. Stop trying to come up with an excuse to stay on welfare and go get a job.

No. Stop trying to come up with an excuse to sound superior to others and go get some help.

I'm a poor college student barely halfway into my degree. I live on no more than two meals a day and sometimes less than that. I may have bought half a dozen items for pleasure in the last two years, and none of said items have cost more than a simple video game.

I am not successful, but I am not looking for an excuse to sit on my ass. I'm working on it because I have self respect and because I care about my future family that I mean to provide for.

I would advise you to listen to the nonsense spewing from your mouth before telling someone else to get help. I'm not the one pathetically attempting to excuse a life of sitting around taking welfare checks.

That doesn't make any sense.

Society lets his job define him. He, himself, doesn't.

So you think society should just give him a house? Some food too?

I love how you imply that I sit on my ass and take welfare checks.

I have a job, yes. But I don't have it to make an abundance of money or buy a helload of things I don't need. I have it to feed, house, and clothe myself.

No, but society should stop declaring him "unsuccessful".

No, but society should stop declaring him "unsuccessful".

But, by definition he is not successful. Unless, His aim was to be a homeless bum loser his whole life. Which I highly doubt.

Successful:
Adjective
1.Accomplishing an aim or purpose: "a successful attack on the town".
2.Having achieved popularity, profit, or distinction.

I know, right?
Jay acts like she's better than everyone else simply because she's a chick.
I hope she chokes to death.

Success = being in a place in life that you find satisfying.

I doubt a homeless guy is all that thrilled about being where he is in life. That's what makes him unsuccessful, not the fact that he doesn't have a billion dollars.

My dream isn't to have a good job or a lot of money.

I don't believe I said anything about good job or money.
For the most part, the dream jobs that a person finds the most enjoyable are also pretty well paid.

If I am a musician, programmer, teacher, architect, MLG pro, doctor, or interior designer, and I am good at the thing I do while enjoying it in the process, I will probably get the higher paying job because I'm good at what I do. If I'm have a higher level of skill than someone who isn't striving to better themselves, then I am probably going to be hired instead of them.

He might be unsuccessful is he defines himself as one, but society has no right to make that distinction.

And now we're calling people "losers". What is this, 8th grade?

I'll bring the tritium laser cutters if you bring the beer!

Funny story.

Your insecurity can only mean that you value success too much but don't have it. Your sadness is your own fault.
