First off, weed isn't a drug. It's an herb.
Herbs don't have an effect on your body or mental state.

They most certainly can.
Please enlighten me as to which herbs [not drugs] have an effect on your mental state.

That would be a backwards argument. Any herbs that I used as examples, you would just call drugs.

Cilantro doesn't have an effect on my mental state. Oregano doesn't have an effect on my mental state. Which herbs do?

Marijuana and salvia.

How does having an affect on mental state disqualify status as an herb?

Perhaps I jumped the gun. Marijuana is an herb, but it is also a drug. There's no way you can say that marijuana and salvia aren't drugs. Just like alcohol and caffeine, they have an effect on your body and mental state.

Why didn't Frodo just stick the ring up his ass?

Because Sam would keep turning invisible.

Anything that alters the body chemistry is a drug I think.

A friend of mine once had a student who came to school everyday and just sat there unengaged, uncaring, and just didn't try. This was 5th grade, but he talked to the 5th grader once after class. He questioned his effort through school, and asked him why he saw no reason to try, and the kid said he didn't like school and just wanted to go home and play games. He asked him what he wanted to do when he grew up, and the 5th grader responded he wanted to stay home and play video games. Followed up by him asking how he was going to get the money to buy the games, and the little kid replied: I'll get a check in the mail just like my dad.

OP, by your definition that kid would be happy and successful. Yes, a 25 year old man who sits on his ass all day waiting for someone else to pay his way is not successful.

If that's what the kid legitimately wants to do, then he would be successful.

If you assign every letter of the alphabet a number, a is 1, b is 2, etc., and you take all of the values of the word "MATH", and add them, you get 42. So math is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.

Yes yes, the word successful is as stupid as the number blue.

Nope. There are just different types of success.

  • 12.26.2012 7:06 PM PDT

you are saying that the idea of success that most people have is stupid, not that the word "successful" is stupid.

A homeless man isn't successful.

How isn't he? He could be happy with what he has. He could have a better quality of life than the CEO.

And "success" shouldn't be measured by social status, or even measured at all.

Happiness =/= success.

That's where you're completely wrong. If you're happy, you're successful.

Successful troll is successful.

Garem, you just think there should be an overhaul of our entire society. However success used to be defined throw it out the window? right? There's no need to go to school anymore since you can do just fine and happy sitting on your ass all day right? Since nobody goes to school we don't need teachers to teach anymore. Now we live in a society full of mouth-breathing, inert, leechers. No more innovation, nothing. Whether you believe it or not society has evolved, and most of the things around you, you can thank society for.

You can go back to the stone ages if you like, i'm fine here in the real world.

But there's always going to be people who's happiness depends on helping others. And those are who will progress society.
