Nice strawman argument you got there, fella.

Fact: Illegally obtaining black market weapons is much harder than walking upstairs and just picking up your mom's gun(s).
You can't do anything about limiting legal weapons until you do something about limiting illegally smuggled weapons.

Smuggling in general seems to be a big problems over there but when I ask you Americans the response is usually "we can't do anything about it".

Why can't you?

Where are you from?
Australia.

Why is it so impossible to combat illegal smuggling that people on this forum completely dismiss it as an option. I see it refused to be considered at all whenever I bring it up.

Because our border is incredibly porous. We have a 2000 mile long boarder with Mexico, and only so many people manning it. We don't have the man power.
That doesn't mean nothing can be done at all, right? Surely there is some solution?

Manpower in the police force also seems to be a big problem over there as well. Should not solutions for all problems be considered?

Their police force is corrupt, so is their military. They are not going to stop anything, they are profiting from it.

We do our best, but we are severely undermanned.

Jesus Christ, he's talking about guns not allowed within the law and smuggled into the country and not at all registered. Get your head out of your ass and stop being a child.

I'm being a child?

You are saying that stolen weapons were legally obtained.

Refer to my above post, if i stole your car and ran someone over, are you responsible?
If I leave it unlocked with the keys in the ignition and you're my son living in my house and you have a mental illness, then yes.

Because it is economically impossible to thoroughly screen anything and everything that ever enters the country.
Certainly not everything can be stopped, yes, but that doesn't mean nothing can be done about it.

As we said already, magazine limits will only slow down a shooter by about a second.

When millions of standard capacity magazines are already in circulation, there isn't much we can do about it, even if it had any effect.
How many guns are still around from the 1800s? Early 20th Century? 20s? Clearly this is not about "enact this law and starting tomorrow no more school shootings I promise".
There's quite a few guns still in circulation from the early 20th century. The Mosin Nagant 91/30 was produced from 1930-1945 and there's millions of them in the USA alone.

To add to that, once guns are illegal, people will be less likely to replace the old ones with a new model, so they will stay in circulation for even longer.

Look at Australia, when guns became harder to own, only about %30 were turned in like they were supposed to be.

There hasn't been a massacre since the laws were introduced in if1996, shootings are down, and the current crime wave has nothing to do with guns being banned and more to do with the global economic crisis.

Guns in Australia were never considered tools for self-defense, nor were they actively used as such, so your argument in saying that crime has gone up BECAUSE guns have been heavily restricted is a false one.

Because that's nearly 1/3 less guns in the country. I understand that most gun-owners don't commit murders, but if 1/3 of the guns in the US were turned in, obviously a large amount of people wouldn't have guns, thus (most likely) some people who might commit violent gun crimes wouldn't have guns.

I agree that some level of safety training should be necessary before purchasing a firearm. What I disagree with are silly restrictions on magazine capacity, features (See the US AWB) and certain firearms for arbitrary reasons.

Keep spamming that really poor argument. He stole them, get over it. It doesn't matter if it was his mother's, his cousin's or his neighbor's. He STOLE the weapon. Please, get that through your thick liberal head.

OT: The only proposed thing so far that I actually agree with is finding a way to tighten the gun show loophole. That is an incredibly easy way to buy guns with no background checks.

Keep spamming
How is it spam? The people I respond to are talking about guns that are illegally owned and unregistered, so I brought up a situation where the guns used in a violent crime were neither.

He stole themYes. He did. From his mother who owned them legally.

It doesn't matter if it was his mother's, his cousin's or his neighbor's.It does if his mother owned them legally, his cousin owned them illegally, and his neighbor has a history of violent crime.

He STOLE the weapon. You've said that already.

Please, get that through your thick liberal head.Politics, name-calling, and ad-hominem all in one sentence. That was quite rude. I'll expect an apology.
