Alright guys, this is getting off topic.

This was meant to be an educational thread on the difference between an Assault Rifle and a Semi-auto sporting rifle. Not a debate on gun control.

Back to the topic at hand.

Anyone else have any questions pertaining to Semi-automatic weapons?

Why does anyone need a semi-automatic weapon if it's so quick and easy to reload a gun?

The Newtown murderer's guns were not illegally owned nor unregistered.

Keep spamming that really poor argument. He stole them, get over it. It doesn't matter if it was his mother's, his cousin's or his neighbor's. He STOLE the weapon. Please, get that through your thick liberal head.

OT: The only proposed thing so far that I actually agree with is finding a way to tighten the gun show loophole. That is an incredibly easy way to buy guns with no background checks.

I hate when people use the term "gun show loophole". There is no such thing. Whether at a gun show or anywhere else, private sellers do not have to run a background check on buyers. So a gun show is not some "black hole" where anyone can buy a gun.

A private seller never has to do a background check. People need to quit demonizing gun shows.

It's spam because it is your only argument and a poor one at that. You admitted that it was stolen; therefore not being a legally owned weapon by the shooter. You can't blame someone that had no control over the situation, his mother or any registered gun owner that has their weapon stolen, for the crimes someone else commits. Your argument could be compared to the pilots of 9/11 being held responsible simply because they couldn't keep the terrorists from taking control of the plane. It was their plane! Why did they let the terrorists take it? Those dirty evil plane-nut pilots! We need to take their planes away!

It sounds ridiculous doesn't it? Just like your argument.

Why would anyone need a Bugatti when you can have a Pinto?

Why would anyone need a high end gaming PC when you can have a gameboy?

It's because it's what people enjoy. Some people compete with their semi-autos. Some people hunt with them, some just target shoot. Some want them for home defense.

Terrible analogy. It doesn't even work.

The pilots were the victim.

No, but there was one in 1770 in Boston.

More than two people died, it's a mass shooting.

Your parallels (if you can call them that) are bad.

Mass shootings are actually 4+ dead. For the record.

Yes, but that was from a military unit that fired on an unarmed crowd, not a civilian shooting another.

My bad for not specifying.

You are looking at it from a in the narrow perspective. You see nothing but what they can do.

Now look at it this way.

If a basketball player was able to buy a pair of shoes that made him more effective than his competition, should he be able to?

If a person wants to buy a car that is faster than every one else's, should he be able to?

If a chef wants to buy a skillet that cooks better than his competition, should he be able to?

If I want to buy a rifle that is more effective than everyone else's, should I be able to?

It comes down to effectiveness. Some people want the most effective tool money can buy, be it for pleasure, for profit, or for defense. Why should they be limited to what everyone else has simply because you don't agree with them having it?

Okay, if you're a professional gun shooter who professionally shoots guns in competition, you can have semi-automatic guns to be better than your competition.

Only very recently was this an inanimate target. By in large, guns are designed to kill. That is their purpose.

"Guns don't kill people, people kill people."

-blam!-. Fine. Guns are designed to facilitate the killing of people.

Too bad being completely and utterly wrong isn't a bannable offense.

And that projectile is to do what, hammer nails?

A spear is a long stick with a point on one end, designed to deliver that point to a larger distance than a person's normal reach.

A sword is a blade of metal designed for cutting.

You can butcher their descriptions all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that swords, spears AND guns have a primary purpose of bringing injury to a living thing.

Ok, if someone breaks into my home with AK-47s why should I be limited to weapons that are far less inefficient then what they have? Why should I be at a disadvantage because you don't like the prospect of me being on equal footing with a potential threat?

Okay. Allow everyone to buy unregistered AK-47s. Even felons who've committed violent crime. They don't deserve to die, right? Of course not. Give everyone AK-47s. All of them. Actually, what if someone gets a rocket launcher? Give everyone rocket launchers.

"Guns aren't designed to kill people"

False. The first gun wasn't invented with the intention of firing a projectile at high speeds. It was made to kill. Also, if you know anything about the history of guns, you would know that they were also made to scare the ancient South Americans.

With the implication that guns were not designed to kill or injure another living creature.
