If someone breaks in to my house with semiautomatic weapons, why should I be on lower ground than they are? Why should I be at a disadvantage? Why should my life be at risk because you simple do not agree with the thought of civilians having semiautomatic rifles?
You're absolutely correct. Buy a minigun.

...but what if someone breaks into your house and they have a minigun with them?!?

This is like Bugs and Elmer in The Rabbit of Seville, where they both try to one-up each other with axes, pistols, shotguns, and cannons. 6:25.
But... but... using their logic against them is a slippery slope fallacy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd rather live there than in a society where the people who decide it's time for change in the government are a group of rednecks with guns powerful enough to shoot through solid concrete.

I'd also rather live THERE, than in a society where people are willing to give up human lives for their own messed up feeling of safety and security.

As for the crime in your area, is a handgun seriously not enough? The chance of an armed group of men charging into your house is seriously low, let alone them having more firepower than you. Even then, criminals are cowards. The fact that you are home is enough to scare most criminals away. And clearing your house? HA! You're an average gun owner, not Jack Bauer.

But seriously, keep training for the shootout of your life. Keep worrying about it, keep throwing your money away on things that will likely be taken away by January.

Have a nice day.

Assuming that a criminal somehow obtained the money and ammunition for a mini-gun, I think it would be safe to say that we have bigger problems then a bunch of dangerous hooligans breaking into my home.

At that point, we would have to address why the country has broken down into anarchy and why super humans are breaking into people's homes armed with very heavy mini-guns.
Why would a criminal need money for one? Criminals obtain guns illegally, remember.

Regardless, how do you address the issue I raised? You want more powerful firearms to combat the people who are already carrying powerful firearms. What happens when someone breaks into your house when they have a more powerful weapon than you?

Equal footing being just about any semiautomatic rifle. From Granddad's old M1 Carbine he brought back from the war, to an Springfield M1A Battle Rifle, to an AR-15. All will put you on equal footing to that AK they have.
How often do people get their house broken into by someone with an AK? Can you find me at least five instances of that in the past year?

You used that statement to counter Snipe's statement that guns are designed to kill people. By countering to that statement you are saying that the statement is wrong, and that your statement instead is the correct one.
Okay.

By countering Snipe's statement, you were saying that guns are not designed to kill, but instead are for "delivering projectiles", which is a false statement. It's not a false statement. Guns are designed to discharge a projectile. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.

There is nothing false about that statement.
Except that you stated that with the implication that the launched projectile is not to injure or kill a living being, when indeed it is.
Once again, there was no such implication. You're reading too much into what I'm saying.

You said something stupid and now you're denying everything. If that's what you believe.

Darkwing Duck did a hilarious version of that with Negaduck too.

Darkwing Duck was more Warner Brothers style than Disney even though Disney made it.

Keep living in your fantasy world, in which everyone is out to get you and you must spend thousands of dollars to ensure that you are safe.

I don't own a gun and I never will. But don't worry, I'll let you know when those bad guys with AK-47s come kicking my door down. I sounds ridiculous even repeating it.

How do you know he doesn't live in a crime ridden neighborhood? Go live in Detroit or Flint or east Saginaw Michigan right now. Id love for you to not change your position then. Oh, but you have your 15-minutes-away police call handy! I'm sure they'll wait to attempt your murder until the police arrive.
If the police are15 minutes away there is a problem with your police force.
A problem that we need to fix INSTEAD of arming the populous.

But wait, I forgot. "There's absolutely no solution to gun crime apart from buying a gun"

That was a close one, I almost forgot about the lies the NRA tells me to spread.

A Semiautomatic rifle would be arguable more effective than just about anything in a home defense situation.

It's not about power, it's about effectiveness. If I can effectively eliminate a threat with a less 'powerful' firearm, then I will.

A Pistol is only marginally effective. A shotgun is marginally more effective. A rifle, in my eyes, is more effective than my shotgun in my home due to narrow hallways.

A rifle is much easier to disarm than a pistol, who is to say that the criminal won't disarm you.

Now you're both unarmed. Tell me, Jack Bauer, how have you prepared for this situation?

Nice strawman argument you got there, fella.

Fact: Illegally obtaining black market weapons is much harder than walking upstairs and just picking up your mom's gun(s).
You can't do anything about limiting legal weapons until you do something about limiting illegally smuggled weapons.

Smuggling in general seems to be a big problems over there but when I ask you Americans the response is usually "we can't do anything about it".

Why can't you?

Where are you from?
this.we have a huge gang/cartel problem and unsecured borders where smugglers can easily avoid detection. we aren't an island. we've got two countries next to us. canadians don't really care aboot us maple syrup users, mexico is very corrupt and doesn't really care.

we don't have a reasonable way to enforce the borders outside of electrified fences, underfunded patrols and deportations...

What? Seriously, What?

I expect an answer to the above question.

To the rest of your statement, you are the typical gun fearing liberal (yes, liberal, because that is the only term that fittingly describes you so inb4hurrdurridealogybashing); that exaggerates situations to make yourself appear correct when, in reality, you aren't actually proving any point whatsoever. Nobody is saying we want heavy weapons. We just don't want what we currently have taken away.

OK, so a semi-auto rifle is your choice. Now what do you do when someone who breaks into your house has one as well?

There are other ways to combat smuggling, but it seems your police force does jack -blam!- anyway, so whatever.

And what part of that means not buying them? People, criminals, all over the US sell arms illegally. Implying other criminals steal every single weapon they use is pure ignorance. It shows that you clearly don't know what you are talking about.

Assuming both are semi-automatic, yes. The handgun may be even more so in that case simply due to the mobility it allows that can't be achieved with an AK-47, even with the stock collapsed. Magazine capacity is a non-factor because extended magazines are not hard to come by. Some handguns even come with 30-round mags.
