ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY CHROME.

I know you can do this with the retail versions (the disk you buy, not a pre installed) and I want to use it for my desktop, do I have to uninstall Win 7 from the old computer and then put it on my desktop, or can I install, and put the product key in, activating this computer, and deactivating the other computer by doing so. Or are there other ways of doing this, any help is appreciated.

I'm sure it will work with any computer, however MS may have added a limit on how many times you can use the same product key.

I know that Vista works an infinite amount of times with the same product key.

Okay, I know it will do so, but it will only be activated and labeled "genuine" on one at a time, I'm just unsure if I need to completely uninstall it from the old system (a laptop I gave to a friend, he wants to put a different OS on now) before I do it, or if I can just put the key in and it will deactivate on the old on e and activate on my desktop.

If they do add a limit, you can call them and tell them about your situation. I did it with Windows 8, they activated it for me even though I've exceeded the activation limit.

Run command prompt as administrator (right click -> run as admin...) and enter the following:

slmgr.vbs -upk
This should remove the key from your current Windows installation and allow you to activate on another computer. You are allowed a certain number of activations per key, though, so the above may not even be necessary. Just try to activate as normal first.

Thanks, I saw that in a google search as well.

From what I've also read, it's as simple as installing it on the new computer, typing in the product key and activating and you're all set and ready to go, as it will automatically deactivate the old computer, and activate on the new one. But you may or may not have to call MS by phone real quick if theirs an issue.

Correct. You'll most likely not have to do anything else.
