Subject: Unusually dark moments in lighthearted games

There just aren't enough moments in the day to rectify the wrongs of the past.

The last half-hour or so of Super Paper Mario.

I mean seriously, what the -blam!-?

What happened? I don't mind spoilers.

This cannot be repeated enough. Earthbound was a kids' game up until that -blam!-ing terrifying final battle.

A real test of a man is if he is willing to scrape a sharpened razor up and down his junk just to please a woman.

Majora's Mask had some really dark moments:
The zombified old man in the closet
The begining
The pain of wearing the masks
Both Mikaeu and Daruni's song of healing things were kinda -blam!- up, too. Mikaeu was trying to save his kids, right?

I thought Earthbound was targeted more towards teens? I dunno, I might be wrong. Even for teens, Giygas is over the top.

Majora's Mask was a dark game..

Octavia is best pony.

Lavender Town. Not even going into the whole creepypasta mythos, it's extremely dark. Everything from the music to the idea of a tower where the dead bodies of thousands of Pokemon are stored struck me as unusually grimdark.

It's Pokémon, not Pokemon!

Kirby Dreamland 3's final boss.

I don't understand the whole 'Lavender Town is terrifying' thing. I found everything about Lavender Town calm and relaxing, not scary in any way.

The music is pretty unsettling, as well as the idea of the Pokemon Tower is extremely out of place in the super-cheery world of Pokemon.

I was young when I first played it, and my sister told me to not go into the Tower or else my game would crash, so I don't actually have any memory of the Tower. But still, never found the music unsettling in any way.

In Halo CE, it all seems like a light-hearted action space shooter. Then come the flood...

  • 12.26.2012 8:38 PM PDT

Blackness Confirmed. You've got soul.

The Ultimate Opinion.

Half Life 2 really isn't a lighthearted game but "We Don't Go to Ravenholm" gets me every time.

Why Bungie, why would you do this?! - Halo Community

Gotta admit that the part in Halo 4 where the Composer composes everyone on the Research Station except Chief creeped the Hell out of me, since Halo has always been arguably the most tame M-rated game out there.

Very true.

But for me, its the Nintendo Game Boy Camera's "Who are you running from?". Creepy -blam!-.

I like how your sub box is full of science and political videos but your recommendations are full of anime girls kissing each other.

Just Zoid being Zoid ^_^

There's a part in Persona 4 where your friends and you consider murdering the serial killer you find. It's kind of dark considering you're all high-schoolers in the game.
The game itself is pretty dark >.>
It's just coated all over with happiness

If pro is the opposite of con, then the opposite of progress is...

IDK; in dark cloud, the final boss goes through stages that contrast with the rest of the game.

Or so I remember. :D

Majora's Mask. When that mask salesman grabbed Link and shook him violently, I was shocked... at his face.

Also, that transformation into a Zora is -blam!- scary.

Old Chateau was scarier. Everyone's just more scared of LT because of that creepypasta.
