We all wear masks and the time comes when we cannot remove them without removing our own skin.

I was at a friends kickback and some lady was babbling on about her beliefs. After a while I finally asked her some questions.
One of the questions: How old is this planet?
"Around 6000 years old".
Another question: What about the dinosaurs?
"Their bones were put there by the devil".
I laughed, called her an idiot, and continued to drink and play some Mortal Kombat.

If we disagree, it's nothing personal, opinions are opinions.
Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Brighten your day with science.

Everyone has a right to their own opinion.

It doesn't mean that anyone has to take their opinion seriously, or legally.

"Ignorance is a plague."

Close, but the plague killed those infected with it, and the ignorant are still alive.
I wish ignorance was a plague.

This isn't a religious discussion; it's about science (and ignorance of it).

Trussingdoor is pretty kewl. He fires lasers and doesn't afraid of anything.

Weren't threads like this against the rules for a while or something?

Anyway, I don't see any controversy. You either believe in it, or try to avoid the subject as much as you can because you know you can't find any valid argument against it.

I don't believe it necessarily conflicts with the idea of a god(s) or creationism

It only conflicts with Young Earth Creationism.

There's no controversy. A controversy implies that the debate concerns matters of opinions.

There is fact and there are those who refuse to accept fact. It's no more complicated than that.

The problem with carbon-dating is it detects the age of a carbon sample, not the age of the animal it inhabited. Also carbon-dating assumes that all isotopes of nitrogen formed in beta-decay were only formed from such decay, whearas it is unlikely that no nitrogen existed before decay.

The only people who say this tend to be creationists or old people just because that's their belief or what they grew up believing. Let people believe what they want, it doesn't affect you in this time period what they think.

I'm not sure OP, at least you get a false sense of superiority for believing an idea that others don't. Congrats.

An argument from ignorance isn't any proper way to base a position.

Carbon dating is not the primary tool to determine age. Multiple radioactive samples are measured to determine the age of a rock layer, which is only confirmed after the measurements of multiple materials all indicate the same timeframe. As for fossils, stratigraphy, not radioactive dating, is used to give the timeframe from within the fossil must have formed in.
