Subject: Why is there no limitation on freedom of speech?

"History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it."
-Sir Winston Churchill

The Secret Society 95% of activity is me, I could use some help.

Yeah, it is really stupid, oh well. It should be a privilege, not a right.

EDIT: After reading some responses I realize that free speech is limited, just not enough for my tastes.

I know my ways. So just stay back.

There is. Threat, blackmail, and slander are not protect by speech.

There are limitations to freedom of speech. When what you're saying incites clear and present danger it's against the law. The reason they don't ban hate speech is because that becomes a slippery slope where the government can subjectively determine what is hate speech and use that as a means to silence people they disapprove of.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

But free speech is limited *cough*Bradley Manning*cough*.

Because censorship isn't something people like?

So? Billions of people have to deal with it.

Are you retarded or something?

OP is an idiot. There are limitations; being that you cannot say things that would potentially bring bodily injury to another human being or cause mass panic. Such as yelling fire or bomb in an airport or other such area that is filled with people; and that is the only limitation that there should be.

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lube.

If freedom of speech was limited, it wouldn't be freedom of speech.

There's exceptions to every rule. By and large, the US has unlimited free speech.

Why didn't Frodo just stick the ring up his ass?

Because Sam would keep turning invisible.

The reason it is not limited is because on a few of the things you listed there really is no right or wrong answer, and if there is, it's extremely hard to find the correct answer.

Most countries that actually impose limitations to freedom of speech either fail, or become a terrible country to live in. You say how you pay attention to history, but you obviously didn't notice that America is one of the few countries to ever have freedom of speech.

If you were smart enough to read past a few posts which is literally on the first page, you would realize I already addressed this. And you still don't comprehend the point I was trying to make.

First off, you need to stop trying to assert that everyone who doesn't agree with you is stupid, it has the opposite effect of what you're intending.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

There are man, many limitations on free speech in America.

Is this supposed to be a counter argument? If so, it's a pathetic one.

No. It was a serious question.
Your idiotic argument that when facing censorship you should just ideal with it made me question your logic and sanity.

Freedom of speech isn't a right, it's a privilege. We need to treat that privilege with respect and remember always that what we say has an impact on what and who we choose to talk about.

Speech, one of the most basic things to all human beings, is the most important part of a free country. If you can't say what you want [within reason], then you are not free.

THAT is why freedom of speech is so important. Simple as that.

Yet people in the United States still manage to say things that aren't within reason.
Okay, so what?

I would say that there are more than a few countries that have freedom of speech.
