Irrelevant. Sony was hacked at their corporate site. Accounts were compromised because of their lack of security.
The OP lost $700 because he didn't secure his email/Steam properly.
Apples & oranges mate.
Until Steam comes out an says they weren't hacked. I'd assume they were. Monoprice was hacked a few years ago and I didn't find out until I started getting charges on my card. They didn't inform me until after the fact.
I have yet to read any stories on a recent hacking with Steam. But again, this is OP being careless, not a company server being hacked.
