Hey guys, I'm planning my first computer upgrade from a shelf-model computer by adding a video card. My friend recommended the Galaxy Geforce GT 610 to me, and I was wondering if it was worth getting. Any thoughts? Also, which model. Right now, on Newegg, there's 3 different models of the GT 610, so... http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE& ;DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&N=-1&isNodeId=1&Descr iption=Galaxy+Geforce+GT+610&x=0&y=0
What are you going to be using the video card for? Just movie watching/surfing the web or do you want to game with it? That is an *entry* level card and I want to make that very clear. Depending on how new your shelf model is, you wouldn't notice a significant difference between that and your integrated card. If you want to do any gaming at all, I would recommend you go a couple steps up. Now that doesn't mean you have to buy the fanciest card out there but that 610 just isn't worth the money. Also keep in mind when upgrading cards, you also have to make sure your power supply unit (PSU) can handle the increase associated with more powerful cards. At this point, mostly gaming, though I have little to no experience with computer hardware at this point beyond the past couple months. Right now, I'm using a work-oriented ~5 year old computer, and I'm going to be building up a computer from scratch soon. I was mostly going for a video card that I can integrate into my current computer, then swap into my custom rig when the rest of the parts were put together, though that won't happen for a few months. Any suggestions for a decent video card? I'd mostly be playing games such as Planetside 2, though exceptional graphics aren't a "must have" for me.
No worries, I'll help you out. What price range are you looking at? The reason I ask is because you don't want to get a crappy card and then put that card into your expensive rig when you build it. Computers aren't future proof because of new hardware coming out every 6 months etc... but it's better to get a decent video card up front even if you don't end up upgrading for a while.
