You should get the latest BIOS that you can get off Gigabyte's website.
Also, nForce chipset. NVIDIA quit the motherboard chipset business a while back. How old is your motherboard?
I'm not sure, but I'm looking at my box for the MOBO and it says the AM3+ CPU BIOS are installed and it's AM3+ CPU ready, so I'm assuming I'm good to go Well, in order to install a newer CPU. It's wise to update the BIOS.
AM3+ is the socket. Plus, the best CPU you can install on your motherboard is the FX 8140 and the minimum required BIOS version for that exact CPU is version FB.
I'm sure you can check the BIOS version by going into the BIOS. If it's already FB, you are good to go.
I do have the FB version so I guess I'm good. But I'm wondering, why can I only get the 8140? IS that what you mean't the 8140? Because I'm googling it and I can't find a retailer, It's not even on the AMD website.
Why couldn't I get an FX 8350 for my MOBO? I checked the support CPU list for your motherboard, the 8350 isn't supported.
The Bulldozer FX CPUs (FX 8130 for example) however, are supported.
