I thought that was yesterday...I don't even have BLands 2. We should have a Left 4 Dead 2 game night or something that can have 5-6 man multiplayer.

OK so here's a question. A couple of you might remember me pestering everybody in the other thread. But I never read that first post, hah. Now I just did. I read the 'why you shouldn't get prebuilt' thing.

Before I was looking at a Lenovo Y580 because the Flood said it was good and could run most things quite nicely for the $800 it cost at the time. So computer nerds (don't worry- I want to be you). Tell me some things.

What does 'overclocking a processor mean and why is it more expensive? How does one do it? The only time I've ever heard of that is on an episode of Futurama and it made Bender a genius. So I'm guessing it means... making something in your computer run faster than recommended. Is it dangerous to overclock something?

Processors. Apparently an 'i7' is like... the best? Is an i5 not good? Could you run pretty much anything with an i5? It's cheaper so I'm guessing it's older, but... yeah.

And lastly... CAN you build a custom laptop? I know I know- Desktops are cheaper and better for that price for gaming. But yeah.

I don't think I'll build one anyway. I just... am terrified of screwing something up so I think I need to buy one from a store or something. But I'm curious about stuff.

1)Overclocking increases the frequency of the processor. Makes it go faster basically. Companies charge for overclocking but you can do it yourself for free. Only overclock if you have a good cooler for your processor other wise it'll overheat. NEVER overclock a laptop unless you want a new grill.

2) i7s are for video editing, rendering, photoshop and all that jazz. They don't offer much difference to an i5 when gaming, which is why gamers should get an i5.

3) You can build a laptop, but it's a lot more complicated apparently. You can upgrade some parts of a prebuilt laptop, but your options are very slim due to the compact form.

Building a desktop? Desktop building is really simple. That goes into that and this goes into here pretty much. I built mine easily and I ain't too good at woodworking in D.T at school.

Overclocking just makes it faster, simply. You can do that to a graphics card and RAM as well. It can be dangerous without proper cooling.

Laptops always seem to ship with i7s, but you only really need an i5 unless you plan on video/photo editting.

There are websites that will let you pick every part out for a laptop and then they build it and send it to you, but otherwise, it's quite hard to custom build one.

I'm not sure what you're asking... There's not really gonna be anyway to keep that from "too expensive." A good smartphone is at least $200, and that's assuming you're going on contract. Depending on which Xbox you get, it can range in price. 3 computers is too vague... Laptop? Desktop? Router, I don't really know about that. And an iPad, that should be pretty easy to find.

Either way, I'm still not quite sure what you're asking for.

I find the Bitfenix Prodigy really cute.

If I had a load of spare cash, I'd love to build a high-spec one and maybe try watercooling it. My sister also wants a PC now so I could get her the Prodigy if she gets a gaming PC.

"You get what you put into it."

When Legendary is too mainstream, you have Heroic. When you're the leader of the church of MLGeezus, have Epic in your username, and can't write 'About Me's' to save your life, what do you get?

This guy. And now, an side note: Most things I post contain lethal doses of sarcasm, so be warned, and try not to take me seriously.

Finally, a message to Bungie trolls everywhere.

Hopefully this can get to be a Top Topic. Saved for future reference.

Just get a router that's dual band, has Gigabit ethernet ports, and is at least Wireless 802.11 N. Go with Asus, Linksys, or Netgear. This is mine, which I got on sale at Microcenter for like, $80.

The highest my gpu temps have been on full load (Crysis 1, Very high settings) I'm worried that my card will have a very short life like this. Avg temp was 74*C.

I made my user name back when I was little. I go by RandomJPG now. Please don't reference my username.

I ended up getting a i7 3770k for around $130. Should I buy myself a 660ti or use the money I saved to buy a 680? I'm not just doing gaming by the way. I plan on doing advanced 3D visual effects in college.

I am assuming direct control.

Go ahead and add me to the successful builders list. I finished it last year, but this was my build.

Nobody really notices, but Mushkin sells an amazing SSD (240gb) for less than 180$. Look into that if you're pursuing a speed boost to a PC.

EDIT: For games, I usually go by DarkR3flection (BF3) but I also go by Max Rico in the MMO EVE online.

If you can afford the 680, go for it, I think the extra CUDA cores will help. Otherwise, go with a 670 and put more money elsewhere.

I'm really trying to go all out so I'm leaning towards the 680. The CUDA cores should help out a lot with rendering.

Anybody know when the 700 series is coming out?

Probably around late quarter 1/early quarter 2 next year. What parts have you chosen already?

Here's my list so far.

I'm not buying the parts until around March-ish. Also, like I stated before, I already bought my i7 because I highly doubt I'm going to find it for a better price any time soon. My budget is around $1800 but I'm trying to shoot for around $1500 if I can.
