Good monitor from what I've read. I have a Samsung one.

I sit pretty close to my monitor, between like 2-4 feet, would 27" at 1080p be unnecessary that close or?

What should I upgrade first

i3 2120

or

Do you play bigger games like MMO/MMORPGs, open world games(like GTA and Skyrim)? If so, the i3, otherwise, the 6870.

HOLY -blam!-. Crysis runs infinitely better maxed out in windowed mode!

Battlefield 3 is currently 20$ on Origin. It says regular 40$, so I'm assuming it's a holiday sale thing. I figured I'd post that, seeing that so many of you have powerful PCs now :3

I know people that do that exact same thing with their 27 inch 1080p monitors and it looks totally fine. The only thing I think could be an issue and this is my personal opinion, is if you wanted to get a 2 or 3 screen setup down the line.

The i3 is still decent for gaming, if he wanted an instant upgrade it would be better spent on the graphics card.

Not necessarily because you're going to cause a bottleneck with the i3 depending on what types of games you play and the graphics card you upgrade to.

Maybe somewhat in games like Battlefield 3, but very few games actually use 4 cores today so you would still get a much greater benefit out of getting a new, current GPU.

I just picked up the VE247H. It's beautiful.

The colours are very sharp and vibrant, and the LED backlight means that you still get a great picture even at extreme viewing angles. ASUS makes good -blam!-.

Good old hypocrisy, what humanity does best.

This any good? May swap the ASUS motherboard for an ASRock one which performs only marginally worse but has worse socket placement.

Got a monitor as I assume I can just use the 40' HD TV in my room, takes care of the need for speakers too though I do have some I could hook up that would be better than the TV's I think, also need a mouse and keyboard, both wireless, though probably not too expensive as I may eventually move out and be able to have a desk again in the not too distant future.

That's true but I thought the 6870 was pretty modern? That's why I suggested upgrading to an i5. I know a ton more about Nvidia though than AMD.

Looks good to me. I've always wanted to do an ITX build for gaming, especially since the Prodigy came out.

Good. Also OP this website is now the preferred logical increments guide from Falcon. I'd put this in the OP in place of or with the image.

Also do I need the cooler if I'm not overclocking? I plan to but I don't think I'll initially need to overclock.

If you can afford it, I definitely would for a lot of reasons. Even if you're not overclocking, it really helps with cooling especially since the stock fan is -blam!-. Also it's going to be a pain later because you'll have to take out the motherboard to secure the screws for the cooler behind the motherboard for the cooler bracket.

No, the 6870 was released a while ago, something like the 7870 would be a good upgrade.

My VS248 is awesome. I'm sure a 27in Asus monitor will be great.

Oh and I can confirm the Intel stock fan is pretty bad. The fan makes a ticking noise. Works fine though as long as I'm not trying to kill my CPU.

If I buy an aftermarket cooler i want the H100i sooo...

I think I will buy it then. Have plenty money for the build but I don't want to go overboard.

Alright guys, just picked up a G400 and a cheap desk mic. I'll probably return it and buy a different one, but this'll do for now. My next buy though, is a good keyboard. I'm probably gonna get a mechanical one, and IIRC, brown keys are best for gaming and typing, correct? So, what keyboards would you guys recommend then.
