Subject: PC Building Guide and FAQ of The Flood v2.0 [ HX650 $72 ]

Ok guys, i have received my A10-5800k, so i thought i would do some minor overclocking.
A10-5800k 3.8ghz, 4.2turbo core
4gb 1866 kingston hyperx RAM
MSI A75Ma-E35 motherboard

I was able to set the RAM at 2133, since i heard APU likes fast RAM. First thing after booted into windows, i went and got prime95 and ran it.(the only overclocking beeing done is by turbo core) Within seconds, my processor was nearing 90C, so i shut down. I then booted up with ram at 1866 and decided to play world of warcraft and check my temps. WoW puts the APU at 80C which i know is bad. I now have the cores locked at 3.7 for safety. Does anyone know why i am reaching temperatures this bad? stock cooler with the paste that came pre applied. I did some research, and i have not been able to find anyone who has acheved the same results.

So I decided to download and install Max Payne 3 yesterday. I set all of the settings at maximum (which requires over 2 GB of VRAM), and it was really pushing my SLI GTX 670s. It made Metro 2033 look like a walk in the park in comparison.

Heh yeah, that does seem a little dead.

I tried. :(
Really? What resolution are you on?

And at the above poster, you should definitely look into getting a CM Hyper 212+ for $20. Will be an amazing improvement, and you can overclock very well.

Wonder how my 7950 with 3GB of VRAM would fair out.

But alas, I don't own the game.

A couple of more pages and this will be a top forum topic.

Fluffy you need a new coup
I've had it for over a year. It's here to stay.

Come on, you'll feel like a New Man, I'll make it for you
What did you have in mind?

Another Luna coup or something, whatever you want really.

You can watch me make it in a stream or something, doesn't have to be as complex as this one :P

Yeah, resolution plays a large factor in performance for some reason.

I turned my 6870 on all my games down from 1920x1200 to 1440x900, and then ramped up the anti-aliasing from 4x to 8x. You can't really see past 4x on 1080p, but for me, games now run smoother than a lightsaber through limbs

Because a higher resolution means more pixels the graphics card has to put on the screen, so since there's more pixels in a 1920x1080 resolution than in 1440x900 it has more work to do, sort of.

But it do.

Datum. Glad I've never seen a 1080p display in person, only 720p. This why I don't mind my 6770 only playing games at 720p...also, does anyone else play in windowed mode? My fps increases a -blam!-on when I do. That's why I can run Crysis.

Won't be a problem if you have decent hardware.

Right which is why I always play full screen but I feel like it's still a nice piece of knowledge to know for those people that have older hardware.

1920x1080. However, that's also the resolution that I ran Metro 2033 in as well. The game was still playable, but I certainly noticed it was somewhat "chugging" in some areas.

I get like 120-200 FPS on Max Payne 3 with my single 670, there's no reason at all you should have trouble running it at that resolution, especially with two of them. Metro 2033 sometimes goes to about 40-50 when you go outside, but that's only if you have AA and everything else turned up all the way. I find it hard to believe that your two 670s have trouble running either of those. Hell, they'd be more than enough for 2560x1440.

By the way, all max settings for Max Payne 3 takes just a little under 2GB.

Here are the settings I was running the game on. I'm also aware that 2030MB is not quite 2GB, but those are estimates generated by the system check Rockstar has (and if you've tried GTA IV on the PC you can see that they're sometimes wrong). The numbers are generated on anticipated values, not the actual amount that occurs.

Even so, it doesn't make any sense at all that you would have trouble running ANY game at the resolution you're playing at.

Disable VSynch, bring the AA down to x8, and then post your FPS.

My keyboard has a strange problem that occurs when I use the 't' key. If I press it and type nothing afterwards, it will add anywhere from 3-9 extra t's. But, if I type another letter immediately after it, I can not type a new 't' unless I press space a few times and backspace or back up to the first 't' and re-type the rest of the word. The weird thing is that it does not physically stick. Does anybody know what could be causing the problem?

here is the keyboard

Hi.

Also, two things.
1) I'm getting really bad screen tearing in Far Cry 3. How can I stop this?
2) How do you guys tell how many FPS you're getting in a game?

Try turning on Vsync. What monitor do you have again?

And with a program like MSI Afterburner.

Try unplugging it, turning the computer off, plugging it back in, and turning the computer back on. If that doesn't work, email Logitech support. They're awesome about fixing issues like this. If you're lucky, they'll send you a new keyboard and won't even ask for the old one like I did with my G9x.

Jokes on them. It fixed itself a week later and I gave the old one to my friend.

Try this. I think you might have an AMD card, so look for similar settings.

And I use MSI Afterburner, Mumble, or Bandicam for FPS checks.
