Stop banning me please.

Who cares. Constitution is sacred

But no doubt mental health records should be accesible by licensed gun dealers and the government. Although maybe not the government.

It's per 100,000 so that makes no difference.

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

Interesting data.

It's also interesting to note that there is (essentially) no legal civilian ownership of firearms within all of Mexico. It's "against the law" for anyone other than the police and military to have guns in Mexico.

It's a living example of "when owning a firearm is criminalized, only criminals will have guns".

In a word, the whole country is a "gun-free zone" just like US schools, malls, and other locations where the criminals (who have firearms, because they ignore and don't follow the laws) know that they can operate and cause mayhem without interruption from their victims who are disarmed because they are law abiding and obey the laws that prevent them from having firearms.

I'm assuming the #1 reason why Mexican criminals own guns is because of drug trafficking. I'm curious what would happen if all drugs were legalized and trafficking stopped.

While the drug trade may be a major focus, the firearms are about maintaining control of areas and the people within them. Kidnapping, murder, and power are the local actions of the cartels, their export "business" keeps them rolling in dough, but if that income were gone, they would still want control/power and be happy to use violence in order to get/maintain that power and control.

fun fact: though you have less gun crime in the UK, you also have far more violent crime and blade crime in general.

also Mexican polilitary corruption led to the special forces unit becoming the cartels.

that's right, an entire SF unit went rogue.

I'm an Anarchist. I don't need a government to be a good person, but I'm glad it's here because some of you clearly do.

Comparing the US gun-crime ratio to that of Mexico is somewhat silly if you're focusing on the overall rate of death by gun when suicide is a gun crime.

There are FAR less murders in the US by gun than in Mexico, and suicide doesn't remotely require a gun to be commited. I see this argument as moot. It brings good observations to the table of gun-control discussion, but the argument itself is something else - if you ask me.

It's also important to note that the statistics you linked were not related to Gun Crimes, but Gun-Related-Deaths, which throws into question police-related homicides.

What do you expect with our major cities?? The regions with the strictest gun laws have the most general violence and organized crime. Go figure.

Mental health is a concern; I agree with XxExpungexX. We should try to help gun dealers access this information in a reasonable manner, and provide legal protection for them should they choose to deny a sale.
