Subject: Far Cry 3 PC Lag issues...

I just bought Far Cry 3 through Steam for my PC.

It installed except I'm having some issues with lag and I'm not really sure why.

My Specs:
OS: Win7 Pro (64-bit)
Processor: AMD Phenom II X2 550 Processor 3.10 GHz {6.5}
RAM: 20.0 GB {7.4}
Graphics Card: Radeon HD 5750 {7.3}
Storage: 120 GB SSD, ~1 TB HDD Space {7.3}
(Numbers in {#} are from the Windows Experience Index)

Far Cry 3 Recommended System Requirements:
OS: Windows 7
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ @ 3.0Ghz or better
Memory (RAM): 4 GB RAM
Graphics: 512MB Video RAM
Supported Video Cards: AMD Radeon HD 5000 series.

My settings for the game:
Video:
Display Resolution: 1920 x 1200
Window Mode: Full Screen
V-Sync: 2 Frames (I've tried OFF, 1, and 2 Frames)
GPU Max Buffered Frames: 1 Frame
Widescreen Letterbox: OFF
DirectX: DirectX 9 (I've tried 11 and it was worse)
MSAA Anti-Aliasing (DX11 Only): OFF
Alpha To Coverage (DX11 Only): OFF
SSAO Method (DX11 Only): OFF

Video Quality:
Everything is set to LOW
-----

According to FRAPS, my FPS never goes above 25 and has a low of 15.

I've looked it up a bit and some people with really powerful machines are having problems running it at Very High/Ultra but I put almost every setting as low as possible and I still get some stutter and it's giving me a headache. I can't play it like that.

Is there something I overlooked that is bottle-necking my performance on my PC or is there some other problem?

Set GPU Max Buffer to 1. I had some weird lag but when I did this it fixed. Dunno why...

ALSO It would be very helpful if you download fraps or some other benchmark program and tell us what your framerate is.

Just set it to that. It seems to have helped slightly, however it still feels choppy when moving or looking around.

Could this have anything to do with my using an Xbox 360 controller?

Doubt it. You can try using a mouse and keyboard see if anything changes. I still recommend downloading fraps. Because when I play it feels kind of choppy even though Im getting an average of 50 fps.

Yes, I'm the guy who had the Flood admit to being furries.

No, it wouldn't.

Um, it's possible your hard drive is a bit slow in reading the data and getting it into memory, as it is an open world game, new objects always have to be loaded when you move around, which can cause some stuttering. Same thing with me and the STALKER games, I'm above and beyond the recommended specs, but my hard drive isn't that fast so the game still stutters.

Best option is to get a HD that reads data faster (not sure how they measure that though). Perhaps one of the solid state hard drives that are a bit expensive, but read data almost instantly.

Pass the controller bro

I got a pretty big fps boost by turning post processing effects to low. There was no real change in graphical quality other than the dof going a bit further away, which actually looks more realistic. I think the whole setting might be broken. Also is it just me or does ambient occlusion look terrible in this game?

Well! I got FRAPS. From the time the scene loads towards the very beginning where I'm waking up and talking to Dennis and able to control my character, I got:

Low of 15 FPS:
High of 25 FPS:

I wish I was getting an average of 50.

My Hard Drive isn't slow. I have the game installed on my 120 GB SSD.
I'm sure you know, but Solid State Drives are incredibly fast when compared to HDDs.

TH3 L3G3ND of Halo.

I'm a walking paradox.

Running on a AMD, that's why.

I also experience terribad lag in coop and multiplayer.

Farcry 3 is notoriously unoptimised OP - it's a console port, and a lot of high spec machines are chugging whilst playing it.

Google it. I feel bad for those who bought a PC expecting to max it properly.

Yeah I've been googling. So many people with way better machines than me having lag problems. People with similar machines to mine having lag problems as well!

I just installed the AMD Beta Driver. It mention Far Cry 3 specifically a few times. I'll test with FRAPS and see if anything changes.

UPDATE:
After installing the AMD Beta Drivers, I started up the game. In FULL SCREEN I get about 20 FPS on the main menu. I changed it to Borderless Window (Basically Full Screen) and It has increased to anywhere between 55-60.

I'm hopeful for what actual gameplay will be like.

SECOND UPDATE:
I'm in game watching a scene. still About 54-60 FPS

Link or it didn't happen.

Why the hell do you have 20GBs of RAM, but that horrible CPU?

Yup. In game running around it goes no lower than 38 FPS and no higher than 60.

I haven't gotten into any firefights yet but hopefully it won't drop too low.

On the Left

Godshatter: I can go all the way with someone without being attracted to them.
CamCamm: How does that work?
Godshatter: I'm easily aroused by anything that moves. It's a curse.
Brain says 'No, that's ugly', body says 'ugly is fine with me'.

Ive noticed no troubles yet. Lucky me :D

7even is Darker

Well for starters you're trying to run a new game on 1980x1200 on a crappy gpu.

Turn your res down to about 1400x900

I still rock an HD4890 and if I turn down the res a bit I can max FC3 out at at least 40-50fps
