Well I can kinda understand. Because this past xmas, my parents got me a Honda Accord instead of a BMW, and to be honest, I had some suicidal thoughts.

Sometimes I am tempted to quit gaming. I can no longer play without seeing ponyphags, horrendously bad teammates and mexicans.

Gaming community, I want you to know that you suck.

Being middle eastern I can tell you guys from knowing many Iranians that its actually pretty nice over there.

They tell me that while the government may be -blam!-, the land is really beautiful and money is bountiful because they actually have huge reserves of oil to keep things going.

The government actually pays Iranians 1000 bucks a month not to move out of the country/ escape.

On top of that, the country has tons of relatively nice and inexpensive coastline for people to live and relax at.

I mean I really hate their government but its not to bad a place to live (for now at least)

money is bountiful

30% of the US GDP per Capita, adjusted to US dollars is not bountiful.

Stop banning me please.

When you aren't struggling to live, you tend to take life for granted.

For a country that was regarded as one of the best places to live
Nowadays, pretty damn near only Americans think America is the best place to live.

  • 12.27.2012 1:38 PM PDT

America has over 4 times the population of Iran. Having a higher suicide rate statistically makes sense.

Yes but still, foreign policy or whatever aside, if you live in America you have access to pretty much every consumer good in the world and it's cheaper than Europe.

and did ever occur to you that Iran falsified its information so it looked better.

Also, Bush was behind 9/11

No you idiot, it was Cheney with the C4, not Bush! Dubya was too busy choking on a pretzel!

I would hardly call "access to consumer goods" the chief indicator of quality of life.

oh, and I'm getting tons of lolz at the flood kiddies who don't understand what the phrase "per capita" means.

I am a monument to all your sins

That's pretty common actually. In developed countries, you take staying alive as a given, and so you aspire for much more, and often life doesn't live up. In places like Iran, people are just happy to survive for another day, and so to be successful and happy all they need is survival.

I'm just telling you what I theorize to be the reason. I didn't intend my post to be scientific, although it could be read that way I suppose.

I'm just saying that it is a series of VERY bold claims to say that 1) suicide is only high in affluent countries and 2) conditions are so bad in Iran that "people are happy just to survive for another day"

Per 100,000 people from where? You mean like stressful city lives with a ton of social interaction and financial stresses? Compared to a country which is much more rural and less city dense?

I'd like to see per 100,000 people in types of regions. Many teens in suburban areas with social stresses kill themselves and people in city lives who face other stresses kill themselves. It's like saying people who live in a hot region are more likely to get heat stroke than those in a cold region. Different areas have different living stresses. Plus, Iran is lead by religion and I'm pretty sure normal suicide would land you in hell by their terms and Iran is very strict and extreme so I would assume less people would kill themselves.

And Japan has the highest cost of living and is probably one of the best places to live and it is number 7 on that list. All of this means nothing.

Or, ya know... it isn't being counted correctly? Do you honestly expect Iran to be truthful about these statistics, or even be able to calculate them correctly?

Algebra was invented by Arabs.

Iran isn't a -blam!-hole like the rest of the Middle East. The Persian Empire was one of largest, longest lasting empires and many important things came from it.

What?

Why do some Americans and Europeans think Iran is some sort of cesspool like Pakistan?

Rain, and Jazz.
Halo: Tactical

I'm either a fool or an inteligent man, depending on how sleepy or angry I am.

I originaly made an account on 07.27.2007 but I wanted to link my GT and made this account. Don't forget your passwords!

Don't we have more people than in Iran?

Iran: 74,798,599 (2011)

USA: 311,591,917 (2011)

Just googled it. I think that becasue we have 4x as many people wan in Iran the suicide rate might not be as bad as you are making it out to be.
