Don't we have more people than in Iran?

Iran: 74,798,599 (2011)

USA: 311,591,917 (2011)

Just googled it. I think that becasue we have 4x as many people wan in Iran the suicide rate might not be as bad as you are making it out to be.

It's per 100,000 people although that still isn't specific enough for accurate results.

"The problem with quotes on the internet is 95% are made up." - Socrates

Is it really a fair representation. Look at the dates each of these studies were conducted. United States was 2009, Iran was 2001.

Surely those numbers have changed since the times the studies were conducted, and the gap between those two also kinda ruins the comparison.

If both studies were conducted in 2013, it would be much easier to compare.

That being said, I find it somewhat lulzy that the US is below places like France, Belgium, and Finland in terms of Suicide. You'd think that in countries were you are entitled to everything, you'd be pretty happy.

Maybe more people would understand if it was per 10 people.

Per 100,000 people from where? You mean like stressful city lives with a ton of social interaction and financial stresses? Compared to a country which is much more rural and less city dense?

I'd like to see per 100,000 people in types of regions. Many teens in suburban areas with social stresses kill themselves and people in city lives who face other stresses kill themselves. It's like saying people who live in a hot region are more likely to get heat stroke than those in a cold region. Different areas have different living stresses. Plus, Iran is lead by religion and I'm pretty sure normal suicide would land you in hell by their terms and Iran is very strict and extreme so I would assume less people would kill themselves.

And Japan has the highest cost of living and is probably one of the best places to live and it is number 7 on that list. All of this means nothing.

It could be argued the larger the concentration of people could lead to exponential increases in suicide rates.

Every post whining about the weekly update delays it by 5 minutes.

The developed world knows nothing of real pain, suffering or even happiness for that matter. In order for one to find true happiness you must also know true pain.

First you must ask yourself what is happiness. Happiness is the opposite of pain, and thus we come to know happiness through pain. Pain is the opposite of happiness and thus we come to know pain through happiness.

The feelings that are experienced by a party are only known if you also know its opposite and thus without the opposite neither concept is truly known.

i got philosophical, deal with it.

We have a huge population compared to them.

Iran: 78,868,711 (July 2012 est.)

United States: 313,847,465 (July 2012 est.)

(Compliments to the CIA World Factbook)

I heard education standards were slipping, but I didn't realise they were this low.
This is why suicide rates are higher in the US, they think they can re-spawn.

Not sure if troll....

Almost every person I have ever came in contact with in my life has been either completely nice or completely neutral. I rarely see anyone act negative against another person for no reason.

I'm not surprised. People in America are legitimately cruel and spiteful toward each other. It's really sad that we live in such a negative society when we have so much wealth and so much opportunity.

Exactly my point. The OP's link has no accuracy at all.

-_-

Nobody knows how true the feelings are except for the individual who is experiencing them for themselves. Who is to say that my happiness is not true happiness, or as my pain is not true pain?

More of them are committing suicide in US High Schools because of the the harassment they get from other students.

Plz, in today's society, no one bullies -blam!- kids except middle schoolers but they bully everyone. -blam!- teens kill themselves because they think it is something out of their control. PM me to continue. I don't wanna turn this into a -blam!- thread.
