Subject: Which Total war game should I get?

I've never played a total war game before and I thought that rather than buy a bundle, I'd just buy one to start me off and see how it goes. Which one would you is a best introduction to the series?

I have been recommended Shogun 2.

I was thinking that, but I've never really been a fan of samurai's for some reason, I more of a fan of the medieval era, but I think Medieval II may have aged by now.

Rome 1 is really cheap and will allow you to see if you like the game. Medieval has the LOTR mod which kicks ass. Empire has the biggest scope, but Napoleon's combat is better.

Depends on the gameplay you want. I have Rome, Empire, and Shogun, but Rome's still my favorite especially with the roma serectum mod to it. Shogun is probably the best in the series, unless you want gunfights. Then gun Napolean or Empire.

Napoleon is a crappy Total War with stupid AI and multiplayer sucks.
Get Shogun 2 because Samurai and Ninjas and because everything is better. Campaign is better and more fun, no stupid AI and good multiplayer. And if you want gunfights, get Fall of the Samurai. Fall of the Samurai takes place in 1864 and Napoleon takes place in 1800 so you have better weapons and cannons in Fall of the Samurai and oh GATLING GUNS THAT YOU CAN CONTROL IN FIRST PERSON MODE. So get Shogun 2

"I will show you how a true Prussian officer fights!"

"And i will show you where the iron crosses grow..."

- "Cross of Iron"

Depends on what kind of warfare you prefer.

Napoleon Total War- Line battles where men fire volleys at eachother and artillery is king of the battlefield.

Empire is largely like napoleon except for native american units and a bigger map.

Shogun Total war- Base game is very rock paper scissors and melee/archer units abound. Its expansion fall of the samurai clashes modern weapons such as cannon and rifles with feudal japanese samurai with swords and bows. I am currently playing FOS and it is an amazing and unique experience.

Also get darthmod for any of these! It makes it 10x better.

RIP Logan ~B.B.

I actually just dusted off Rome and beat it again over the holiday break. Love that game. Really liked medieval II as well. I actually disliked Empires, despite it being the same premise. They dynamic of guns is a bit off putting to me though. Having all ranged combat changes the battles too much. I love my phalanx, so I stick to the ones set in older times. But, if you want to know if you like them or not, Rome is the perfect place to start. Others add more features you may like or dislike, but Rome should give you the premise.
