OMGZZ!!!!!!

"It's Afghanistanimation!"

After being curious about this game for several weeks and after doing a bit or research on it, I had decided it pick the game up on the Steam sales several days ago. I went in thinking it would be an OK hack and slash game, boy was I wrong! Chivalry is a blast of bloody good fun!

It is a Multiplayer game that pits you alone or against entire teams of sword wielding, knife throwing, spear stabbing players who all scream their war cry as they run to remove your head from its resting place.

Once you boot the game up, you should immediately check out the tutorial. It will go very in depth about how the combat works, it will give you strategies when facing tough opponents, it will teach you how each class works; they range from Archer, Man-At-Arms, Vanguard, and Knight. Each class has its own set of weapons and abilities. Knowing which one to use at the proper time will mean the difference between success, and failure for you and your team. The great tutorial will also teach you how to play the objective based game modes. You will push battering rams, fire catapults, and even toss torches.

Once you have gotten acquainted with the game, it is now time for you to run into battle. That moment that you encounter another player will pit you in a battle of timing and skill. You must learn to trick and to not be tricked by his/her attacks that may cost you your life. The combat is very well done, each thrust and swing feels like it has great force and weight behind it. When it hits a fleshy target, you can feel the pain that this could have caused in real life. Absolutely brutal! Wounded soldiers cry out in sheer pain when their limbs have been severed, or a knife has been sank into their neck.

Some conflicts end in the looser being dismembered in many areas. Their heads, arms, legs all can be cut clean off by your weapon... Heck, once my head came off and the death camera kept rolling along with the head down a hill. Kind of a sick, demented joy to like this so much...

You attack your enemy with the clicking of your RMB, and the scrolling on your mouse wheel. They range from swings, stabs, and overhead chops. Knowing when to use each one can bypass your enemies block. If they are simply standing with their shield up, then you can kick them back and beat them with your mace, or sword.

Within these great things, there are some problems. Striking distance can be hard to determine at time. Sometimes you can clearly be within spitting distance of a foe, but when you swing you may miss. I mean some on! Some of these weapons are taller than you are, how can they out of range THAT close? Another thing, the Archer class does not feel very impacting. It is cool when you land that killing arrow, but it lacks that "awww yeah" feeling when you do hit the target. Also since some maps are really tight quarters, that class becomes obsolete.

It even feels under-powered when it takes 3+ arrows to kill a knight that is charging at you, and you can't do anything but run.

However, despite these faults. Chivalry is a great first person hack and slash Multiplayer title that is a unique change from the competitive FPS market. It even give you a good amount of weapons to choose from in each class. You pick three weapons out of three categories. You unlock more by getting kills with the selected weapon. Some require 25, or even 70. So if you want more, then you better get to killing.

The overall visual presentation of the game is pretty good as well. It is not THE most beautiful game on the market, but it is certainly good looking. Lighting has a good feel with its God rays, and fidelity. Environments are decently true to the period, but, it could do with more attention to detail and atmosphere. I would really like to feel that I am taking part in a larger battle within my small area.

The optimization appears to be done well enough. You probably wont be able to run it quite as well if you do not have a mid ranged PC. But I could be wrong, I am running at a solid 50+ FPS with a 460m GTX with a majority of the settings maxed out.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is a good multiplayer game. The combat and sheer brutality are a blast! With objective like "Kill the filthy Peasants" you will certainly be having a good time. Just stay with your team members! Going out alone is suicide by all means.

It has its shortcomings with underpowered archery, and range, and even with it not being amazing looking. Overall it is a good way to take a break from filling your enemy with bullets.

FINAL VERDICT: Chivalry: Medieval Warfare gets a B-.

Recon Number 54 -
If they are still looking, then while holding the snarl, I let drool start to drip from my mouth, I stand, curl my fingers into claws and with a hunched over crouch, I then make slow and deliberate steps towards them. When I get close enough, I let them hear my agonized and gasping growls and then, if they continue to stare, when I get within arm's reach? I kiss them on the nose, and run away giggling.

Maybe because he isn't advertising a crappy Halo Machinima but is providing a link to a good review of popular games?

Well then, I am glad that you enjoy it. It is just my feeling. I tend to stick with a Vanguard.
