I talk to my friends all the time about things I hear about on here and Reddit. You also get new viewpoints that you would have otherwise never heard about. Agree?

Per Audacia Ad Astra

In some respects, yes.

dat feeling when you plow a multi-ton covenant war machine.

Any form of constant communication will do it, a forum is just another section of communication.

I would never be able to tell all the women in my life that squeezing their breasts inhibits the onset of Breast Cancer were it not for browsing the Flood.

Perhaps but it has many more chances of giving you the illusion of invincibility.

And I would have never been able to use this line had I not heard it from Hylebos on The Flood

Maybe if you plan on hanging out with a bunch of socially awkward kids.

I don't see the correlation. A forum is a place for people to discuss things, same as a group of friends or a party. A lot of regular people browse forums in their free time, you know. Next time, maybe try not to be so cynical.

If you can't respect my opinion, that's your problem.

Cynicism is the natural state of the internet.

Maybe if you were already a decent one beforehand. Talking on the internet doesn't make talking face to face easier though.

A lawyer's salary can buy a hell of a lot of Asian prostitutes, and that's pretty much all I care about.

Poorly, and with a screen-door style security system?

I wouldn't think so. There are way too many difference between forum conversations and real life interaction to say that forum activity makes you a better conversationalist. For starters, real life interactions are just as much about body language and non-verbal cues as they are about the words coming out of your mouth. That's why important matters should never be handled via text message -- miscommunication is far too likely to occur.

The only way to become a better conversationalist is to put yourself in situations that require conversing. In the real world, you don't have time to sit in your desk chair and carefully (or perhaps not so carefully) think out your replies. As a personal example, I've edited a few things in this reply -- word choice, sentence structure, etc. In face-to-face conversation, you don't get to do that without the other party noticing.

TL;DR: If you want to have better social skills, spend time being social.

Interesting, but I just meant in terms of different things you hear about on forums compared with in real life. On a forum you might hear some topics you never considered before and read viewpoints from people all around the world, as opposed to in real life, where you don't get that with your everyday friends.

Internet - Say all the -blam!- you want and nothing will happen to you.
Real life - -blam!- goes down if you do something stupid.
Some people let the internet life mix with their real life.
I think it's pretty self explanatory.

Octavia is best pony.

To an extent. The problem with forums, especially this one, is that we tend to be very similar in character and circumstance.

Play. Forge. Film.

Sometimes yes, depending on if anybody in your social circle or friends actually cares about what happens in society.

Oh, well in that regard, absolutely. I've done plenty of really interesting reading over the holiday. Coming from an ultra-conservative southern baptist family, being able to read, examine, and research the viewpoints of others forced me to open my eyes a lot to the world around me.
