Survival and reproduction. Don't over think itWhat if a species transcends those needs? A machine could randomize a new file and create an entirely new personality and since they're made of data at the core, they're technically immortal. Are they not life?
Life is but a soup of chemical reactions that has gained sufficient complexity to be considered separate from the inanimate. The transition from inanimate to animate is actually a gradual thing, it's not at all black and white.
That's simply untrue. Human life is much more than that.
In the short term, life is something wonderful and to be cherished.
In the long term, we're all just metaphorical leaves moments away from being blown away by the metaphorical wind.
