One does not choose a destiny, his destiny is bestowed, shaped and formed, from the soul.

Why is it so hard for people to respect others opinions? Even if you really believe they are stupid or wrong what do you earn from pushing it on someone?

By the way, don't turn this into an argument on anything. Just answer the questions

I'm not asking for your opinions

Why can't you respect our opinions and listen to them? And wouldn't answering your question give you our opinion on your topic?

  • 12.27.2012 8:27 PM PDT

How are you supposed to answer without giving an opinion? This isn't a question with an absolute answer.

Anyway, if there's one thing I've noticed, its that ignorance seems to come hand in hand with a lot of hate.

Some opinions are wrong.

This is important to note. If it's something petty and trivial, like video game preference, or something of the like, I'm not going to care. If it's a relatively important position that negatively effects a person, I might intervene.

Religion breeds hate

Lets just say that opinions are like butholes.. Everyone's got one yet no one wants to hear about it.

  • 12.27.2012 8:33 PM PDT

Wow, just wow!

It's my opinion that no opinions should be respected...

Carrying that analogy to its logical endpoint reveals that -blam!- is the epitome of tolerance.

I'm an Anarchist. I don't need a government to be a good person, but I'm glad it's here because some of you clearly do.

Recognizing that one should always portray opinions as such, rather than facts is what is difficult.

The world would be a better place if people used "I think" more often - especially when discussing controversial subjects.

What is an opinion? Never heard of it

There's a difference between respect and tolerance. People always want to have their opinion's "respected" as if they should be put on the same level as someone else's. I don't think they should.

What you really should be asking is why people cannot tolerate the opinions of others. Respect, IMO, implies the reader or listener agrees with or finds a certain position favourable. Tolerance on the other hand is permitting someone to express their opinion, regardless of whether it is favourable or not, IMO.

I don't think you should ever automatically respect anything or anyone. Only do it on your own terms where you find it appropriate, and be especially dubious when someone wants to have themselves or their opinions "respected" by you.

Nonsense. There's no need to childproof our conversations by being politically correct about stating our opinions as such.

Watching grass grow is a very boring activity. I say it as though it were a fact, and that doesn't matter, because most people are able to read it, decide for themselves whether or not they agree, and move on.
