What do you think, Flood? I didn't order a first run dev console but I've downloaded the ODK and am ready to begin the process of porting my games.

I don't really care for it, I mean it's great for people who don't want to spend big bucks. I however, am pretty okay with spending money on one of my favourite hobbies. Though I do want to see what kind of projects pop up.

Time will tell.

So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

If it really does sell and it works, I will be eventually getting one for the sake of game development.

Oh boy the flop is coming! The flop is coming!

That piece of rubbish is still going to flop when people realise it really isn't powerful enough for "full" games.

define full games the console has plenty of power.

I've just been messing with the ODK for a little bit, it's Unity incorporation has been updated massively. I need to get my hands on some supplemental hardware until I can get an OUYA.

It really doesn't. My phone is probably more powerful.

I doubt that. It's an incredibly optimised Tegra3 with 1GB RAM. It's got plenty of power.

It uses a Tegra 3 and only has 1GB of RAM

1GB isn't a lot anymore and the Tegra 3, while Quad Core, only runs at 1.3GHz

I know the specs. There's nothing wrong with what it has. It doubles the RAM of the 360 and the Tegra3 is optimised and overclocked.

What is the point of it? If you want freedom get a gaming computer.

Cheap, fun, non-AAA games and media streaming at a very low price. Get a gaming computer isn't a valid argument when the OUYA is $99 and a decent gaming rig is upwards of $600.

It's still less powerful than the 360 and PS3. I think I read somewhere that overall it's expected to be a tad more powerful than the original Xbox (with more RAM, obviously).

I honestly don't see the point of it. Everything it does you can do on a PC and to a degree, console, better.

It's not there for playing AAA games. It's for lower end indie and arcade games. There are several emulators in the works so it'll end up being able to run anything pre Xbox era. I'm talking PS2 games.

Yep and for that reason it really isn't all that useful or worth the price. If anything a better version of this idea was OnLive and that really didn't do all that well. This being worse is probably just going to flop/

Trouble is you're just looking at it as a high end gaming console without the high end. It's not.

As long as you aren't a little kiddie without a job, $800 is easy to save.

So in other words it can run games that people use crappy laptops to run.

That's still not the point. Why spend $800 for a computer you don't need when all you want to do is stream media and play small, fun titles on your TV for under $100?

I'm going to say what I've always said to the Flood about this: If you can't see the point of it, you aren't even close to its target demographic.

That is because that is really the only market for it. If you want to play old games use an emulator on just about any laptop. If you want modern games buy a console for an extra $100. Even then old games can be emulated on your smartphone. If anything as I said before this is a worse version of OnLive with really no good market share to support it.

Yes, but on the TV, with a decent controller, and you don't have to buy a -blam!- computer to run it.

Guess what you can do that with a cheap laptop which just about everybody has. I fail to see the point in this product if that is all it can do.

You're still missing it. You keep mentioning running it on an old laptop. That's clunky and irritating, and it's much better to play on a TV. What about the entire indie sector? It's an open platform for them to grow and expand, and imo indie games provide some of the most fun I've had playing games. More than the majority of AAA titles.

Major props to my hommie Sheeef. He made Recon possible for me. Long time recovering emails and passwords. And it was his. lol.

Eh... never cared for the OUYA.
