I was glad he was no longer in pain, but it was a weird feeling to see my dad's body, but it not being him anymore.

I could only imagine how that would feel.

It's something incredibly fascinating to me. Everything we are, everything we've ever known and experienced ceases to exist the moment our brain meets its expiration date. Our bodies are merely vessels.

Sorry for your loss.

This was years ago now, so no need for condolences.

But yes, it is indeed a perspective changer. It forces you to deal with mortality whether you wanted to or not. It did alter my fundamental beliefs a bit, and along with the birth of my son, it shapes my life going into the future. Seeing the generation before you go, and knowing you are next, puts a bit of pressure on a person to get to work on preserving legacy and making sure you give the next generation a better head start and better life than you did, just like my dad did for me.

On the Left

Godshatter: I can go all the way with someone without being attracted to them.
CamCamm: How does that work?
Godshatter: I'm easily aroused by anything that moves. It's a curse.
Brain says 'No, that's ugly', body says 'ugly is fine with me'.

you didn't actually see him die though, which is what you were asking in OP

Telling an anecdote and asking a questions are two different things. I didnt read where he said that it happened to him.

And no, but I did know a fella in a wheelchair who had bone cancer. Passed away during my Senior year of HS. He was Junior. He was a cool guy.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

No, and I hope I don't ever have to.

My Health teacher was telling us about a drunk driver who spun off the road. He went to go pull them out of the car, but the gas tank caught on fire. He couldn't get to them in time and they burned to death screaming.

I lost an old xbox friend of mine to cancer a few years back. The last game I played with him was Capture the Flag on Avalanche, and being a huge fan of Monty Python, his last words to me were "Don't worry DJ, 'tis just a flesh wound." I'll miss ya, bud.

"History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it."
-Sir Winston Churchill

The Secret Society 95% of activity is me, I could use some help.

I almost know that feel.

back when I was 9 my Mom had cancer, that morning before school I said goodbye and that I'd see her when I got home. She died at 11 that morning. Getting out of school at noon and coming home to a dead mother that you'd thought you'd be able to talk after school, all before the age of 10.

It doesn't even seem real.

However, there are two things guaranteed in life: dying and paying taxes. I don't let it get to me.

So...

you can leave now.

The neighbor I had before the one who called the police for me (mentioned in another thread). Car accident, the intersection before my neighborhood. I was coming home from a friends house around 4 PM. He got blind-sided by a person running a red light. Got out of my car and called 911, lots of other bi-standers got out to help, he was killed on impact and this is even hard for me to type out. His wife moved away to be with her family a few weeks after.

Will never forget.

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Holy crap. I'd be a little worked about it too.

I saw my grandad 20 mins after he died. In a way, I watched him die for a year before that though.

Of all the stories in this thread, this one probably gave me the most feels.

OT: Not physically in front of me, but I've seen plenty of documentaries and gifs of people dying.

The saddest one was of a man in Mexico who had been shot in his car by the cartels, and was yelling for help. The police just stood and watched him collapse out of the car and die on the street, they were too afraid of the cartels to help him.

Boo boo.

Op has never experienced death in his life. I wonder when the time comes, if he's gonna say boo boo again.

He's not the OP, I am, and I have. Last night was just so...random.

Not in real life, but I've seen plenty of examples in video footage and the news.

No thought required, just spawn and GOOOOOOOOOOO

Saw two people get hit by a train and separate occasions, and a third guy get hit by a car.

One that got hit by a train was a kid, he lived though.

The second that got hit by a train died.

The guy who got hit by the car also died instantly. He was mangled and dragged under the car.

I don't mean to sound edgy, but it never really effected me. I just went on with my day as if it was a normal day.

The suicide guy?

I saw that. Crazy stuff right there. Even though he was a criminal, I felt bad for any family he had. They won't get to remember him as the little boy who strayed, but as the guy who shot himself in desperation.

I saw it live too. I couldn't believe it. It is completely different from seeing an old video of suicide on the net.

But yeah it is weird to think 28 years of life just ended right there and I was there to see it happen.

In real life? I was literally 30-60 seconds behind a three car pile-up caused by a stray kangaroo. The stupid thing had run onto the road and caused a car to swerve into an oncoming lane and pile up three cars. I was sitting there for about 45 minutes in the line of a about a dozen cars right behind the accident, and I watched the emergency services arrive in great numbers and eventually pry someone from the wreckage. Not sure about the others, but I was given to understand there was a fatality from that.

On the internet? I've seen much worse...
