Out of curiosity, does Bungie.net still issue or has ever issued a total ban on an account?

  • 12.28.2012 3:30 AM PDT

I'm pretty sure they still do depending on what that particular user did.

You could always try getting a total ban.

the only problem i have with mine is that it's unstable,[very shakey],so you'd need a tripod for it.

nevermind.

Total ban as in perma ban? I think so...?
But I don't think that accounts are deleted under any circumstances...?

I think total ban means when you can't access the site at all.

So with a perma ban, can you still login to your account?
Does a total ban completely prevent you from doing so?

As far as I can tell, total bans would be given out if, for some reason, it would be necessary to prevent any access to the site, rather than simply removing the ability to post on the mains.

E.g.

I can give an example of an ultra-ban worthy offense. Back when you could only unlock the blue flames via the iPhone a user 'out of the kindness of their heart' was offering to unlock them for members of the forum. To do this they required their login information. Permabanning them would not have disabled access to their inbox, to prevent them retrieving this personal information. An ultraban prevents access to anything on bungie.net.

If you have been perma banned you can definitely still sign in, as users are still able to message and post in private groups. I assume, from the notification, that the page is displayed when you attempt to sign in, so no, you are not able to.

Yeah that. The site prevents you from signing in.

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

Depending on the offense of the user, I'm fairly sure they still issue total bans.

I recall a certain user who was 'Ultra' banned by Shishka and called a man-child. Totally epic day.

This person was back in a couple days under an alt. I do not believe there is a method to ever totally ban anyone from the site.
An account, sure.
But they will likely be back under an alias all too soon.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

What did this man-child do?

Back in Halo 3, he trolled the Halo 3 forum(s) and groups always acting like a nice guy, but he lusted (no really) for and eventually attained 'B.net stardom'. He was even awarded Recon armor. Older guy, in his mid 20's, should have known better, but the whole B.net stardom went totally to his ego and just became a total jerk to people who had befriended and even helped him. He organized his 'followers' as a troll army to flame and attack groups in the mains. Too much internet drama from 1 person.

The crowning achievement was when he lied and said his account was stolen on XBL because of his Recon armor. He was found out and Shishka dropped the ban hammer. Lost the Recon for that too.

Then he came back on various alts trying to invade groups he was removed from, and crying about how it all was unjust and made a Youtube career of flaming the past events.
Last I knew he still had an alt on here somewhere.

That guy sounds like a tool, it is okay to have some laughs now and again, joke around with your friends on here, etc but it sounds like that guy took it too far and became an ass as soon as he got something other people didn't.

I hope I never become like that guy and I hope no one else becomes "The guy" either. But I do think it is good that he was stopped, I can't imagine an ego that big still roaming these forums. I also don't think anyone here is better than another user because of their title bar, armor, or join date. I think it is character that is important, everything else is superficial.

Man of God. Fan of Bungie. Eater of many Jr. Bacon cheeseburgers.

Yeah. Only in really intense scenarios, though. Only Luke Smith would dish them out on a whim.

Yeah that. The site prevents you from signing in.
A user that has been ultrabanned can sign in and view the homepage, but every link gets redirected to the Total Ban page.

Games I like:,
Half-Minute Hero
MBU
Portal
Halo 3 is the best Halo ever
Maps I like: Turf, Avalanche, Pylon, Sandbox, Breakpoint and many more.

Total Bans block you from ever getting back into Bungie on any account. Your IP gets blocked, the whole shi-bang.

Perma bans stop you posting on the main forums (Bungie Community, The Flood, etc.), however you can still message users and post in private groups.

Ask any question. I'll help with anything on site or off.

I believe so, but I don't think any user has gotten it lately.

Still better than you.

.....most of you, at least.

As others have posted, a permanent ban is just like a three-day ban, except it isn't going away after 3-days.
