Uhh, you guys do know that the SR has a range finder when doing two player system link right? For the record, I have calculated the speed of a jackhammer rocket to be around 30 mph. I used the SR to find the distance to a jackal, then timed how long it took for a rocket to travel that distance. Still, a rocket can outfly a warthog, and they are supposed to max out at 55, so my measurement could be incorrect. Measurements made with the motion tracker are most likely to be rediculously inaccurate, though nav markers would be much better. But then, nav markers give you a vertical measurement as well, which will make a horizontal measurement bad. The SR is best. It gives you target distance (total) and target elevation relative to your position. To find the actual horizontal distance, use the pythagorean theorem A^2 + B^2 = C^2, where B = target elevation (make it positive if it is negative) and C = the total target distance, and A = the true horizontal distance. (^2 means squared by the way).
Before you ask if I'm totally insane, I'm a geologist and make maps from time to time out in the field. Having a range finder in a place like Blood Gulch screamed of possibilities for me, but I don't have an accurate enough compass. The AR comes close, but it's too vague. If I could get a compass, I could construct a map of BG accurate to the meter.
