Rocket? No.

Engine? Yes.

Also cool between that engine and Skylon space travel will change forever.

So between seven and twenty days between Earth and Mars. Not bad! I wonder when Nuclear Thrusters will accompany rockets?

So it would take between 7-20 days to reach Mars? Awesome.

What I'm sure about is how long it would take to reach its 200,000 mph top speed...

If you read the article you know that it could take years floating out in space just for the rocket to reach max speed using that engine.

No. Not even close.

Actually his math checks out.

But how good will the acceleration be? How long would it take to be able to achieve the maximum speed?

Actually, he forgot the small matter of the 10,000 hours the ship has to be accelerating for before it reaches the speed he used in his calculation. So, that's 7-20 days, plus a little over a year. Not quite the same as 7-20 days.

I just read over it. Yeah, the acceleration is garbage on it.

What the 0-60 time? It says that's a last gen engine and same with the newtons.

That is what the article was talking about, it takes time for the engine to power up and eventually its max speed should top out at around 200,000 MPH. Even if they can only obtain half of that, a mission to Mars could really be planned in the next quarter century.

After acceleration is maxed out i would think. But still, much faster than what it is today.

But for manned missions, that means he/she/they'd have to be in the same Rocket for at least a year at them high speeds. I'd say it might need a few tweaks and working outs.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Only downside is the phenomenal amount of time it would take for the ion drive to reach the max speed of 200,000 km/h.

I mean, it takes 3 days for it to reach 60 km/h - somebody do the math.
