With the recent uptick of mass shootings in America I thought I would share my thoughts on gun control.
Why?

An older gentleman once came up to me and said "There's no creativity left in the world of art, and if there is, I can't find it" and I just laughed and said "Well of course you can't, you can't find something unless you truly believe there is something there to be found." - Pacman

According to the NRA that's a better idea than more gun restrictions, which is funny.

Again, defense funding and education funding come from different places.

Countries with increased regulation (not restriction) of firearms tend to have less firearm-related homicides per capita.

I wish Americans would stop pretending the only choices were between restricting all guns or letting everyone have an assault rifle. Look at Switzerland, look at Canada, for -blam!- 's sake America, learn from other countries for once /rant

Less than 1% of gun owners own an Assault Rifle. If you mean Assault Weapon, a term coined by the media, then very, very few crimes are committed by assault weapons. Most gun crime is actually the direct result of another ban. This ban is the Drug Ban. Most gun crime is between a criminal, who being a criminal, cannot get a gun legally, kills someone with a gun at a drug deal. This wouldn't happen if drugs were legal but that is another story.

Why should responsible people be restricted? Why should we all have to pay for that one idiot? You guys act like all gun owners are violent murderers.

Because the loss of life from even one school shooting outweighs the loss of whatever you use guns for several million times over.

But the problem is, banning a gun won't work. Banning things doesn't work.

The countries that is does work in are not very racially diverse. People don't like to admit it but race plays a factor in all this. Look at Greece. Before the Albanians came there was little crime. Now? There are robberies everywhere. When you have an influx of people with massively different upbringings, like stealing, violence, then a ban won't do anything because they are used to that.

Besides it is already illegal to kill someone, why does it still happen?

Do you deliberately put at least one fallacious argument in every post you make, or is it an innate ability of yours?

"Besides it is already illegal to kill someone, why does it still happen?"

Because laws aren't perfect. Nobody is claiming a ban on guns would make shootings impossible. What they would do, however, is make them vastly more difficult. Look at the type of people that tend to shoot schools up. Nerdy, friendless, weird white boys (as you seem to keen to bring race into this). What are they going to do if guns are banned, use their underworld connections to buy an AK-47? Somehow, I don't think so. They'd just kill themselves quietly. Most wouldn't even do that. Maybe a few would even turn their lives around. But the certainly wouldn't have the means to take half a school down with them when they flip.

Guns in classrooms is not a good idea. I'd maybe like to see SRO (School Resource Officers) in schools, as well as office staff maybe being allowed to conceal carry, but teachers should not be given weapons. A kid determined could get those guns, and I don't wanna see little Jimmy and his kindergarten friends with a Colt .45.

This is the only logical way to solve this problem, just look at our barbaric neighbors to the north. While they're still struggling fighting off polar bears using bow and arrows, we're down here cozy in our mansions using automatic weapons.

I like this man's way of thinking.

To be fair the average school shooter cannot purchase a weapon. They are underage.

Besides it is a fact that every single person who does a mass shooting has a mental illness. No normal person who is just pissed at the world goes and kills people. So why don't we start there? Making something harder doesn't stop it, keeping someone from doing it in the first place does.

I wish people would stop equating gun control with taking away everyone's guns.

The Newton shooter was denied a gun several days before the shooting. Gun control works.

He wasn't denied it necessarily, but he had to wait to get it like everyone else.

way to not respond to my argument and just espouse tired NRA talking-points
that's your freakin problem though.

you're indoctrinated. it's not just
hurrr NRA derp". it's fact. you're saying "LALALALALA i don't care about facts at all!" by ignoring those points.

we're trying to discuss, but on a level not based strictly on fear, ignorance of the topic at hand, and emotional appeals.

if less than one percent of ALL gun crime is the class of weapons you propose to ban, well then doesn't your proposition seem silly in the least bit to you?

an assault weapon doesn't exist. an assault rifle does, and they're already incredibly expensive and already tightly controlled.

if you're only willing to say ban this, ban that, and not look at facts or underlying sociological root causes of crime, then Really, what's the point?

Are they really points of the NRA? I hate the NRA with a burning passion. Mostly because they try to blame things like video games for mass shootings. The problem isn't the gun, games, media, or anything similar. It is the person behind the trigger, that is who you blame. People need to take blame for their actions.
