Subject: Is being -blam!- a choice or state of being? Genetic or otherwise....

I gaze upon the stars and see the majesty that is the universe.

EGO mos bulla astrum.

In case it's blammed "being ghey". Anyways is it? After listening to news on the relatively recent ban on therapy to change you to being "normal" (in the eyes of the prejudiced) I've always wondered is it? I wanted to hear from some more informed people and ghey members of the site on the issue.

This should be locked immediately, but i think for most ghey people its a choice

Great thread, never seen this discussed before.

-blam!--blam!-ity is shown to be caused by epi-marks on genes. -blam!--blam!-ity in itself is not a gene that can be passed down, but it is not a choice. SCIENCE!

Source.

EDIT: Seriously? I can't even say the proper term for it? This site needs a new censor.

For what reason? It's discussing a choice of life or social issue. It's not too different from discussing smokers or fat people.

On December 1st, 2012, I met Neil deGrasse Tyson. I shook the man's hand, and even made him laugh. Not much else to do with my life now.

I'm not an expert on the topic, but I am aware that it is linked to other genes. A lot of -blam!- individuals share a good number of biological traits, so there's definitely more than just flat-out choice going on here. So for the most part, it's not a choice. And even if it was, I wouldn't care at all. What a petty thing to denounce.

  • 12.28.2012 2:28 PM PDT

Of course it's not a choice. You can't choose what you're -blam!-ly attracted to unless you undergo therapy.

Of course it's a choice. How would homo-blam!- people pass on their genes?

Because there probably isn't a -blam!- gene, and that's not how genetics works.

... That is the single dumbest thing I've read today... and I've been on facebook. I applaud you.

OT: I don't think it is a choice. Think of what a lot of ghey people go through in terms of bullying and being ostracised by their family and friends. Personally I don't know why anyone would choose that.

Also I have -blam!- friends who have told me that they have never felt any attraction to girls even though they tried so they could be accepted as normal. So, if they can't 'choose' to like girls then I would say that they have no choice in being attracted to guys.

I've challenged my beliefs. What is the book about?

I find that this is usually untrue. If religious people honestly, diligently and intelligently challenged their beliefs, there would be no religious people.

Right after watching The Breakfast Club.

If we disagree, it's nothing personal, opinions are opinions.
Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Oh, this thread again.

A lot of people do it because it's a trend.

You make this almost too easy. 0/10.

Homo-blam!-ity is influenced from biological and environmental/cultural factors, it isn't 100% a choice.

Go and "choose" to be attracted to a lamp. Report back with results.

This sums up my thoughts quite nicely.

Bi -blam!-s are by far the worst when it comes to this. That's undoubtedly a conscious choice. Learn basic science.

I don't recall getting a choice in being attracted to both. I only get to choose who I enter relationships with, NOT who I'm attracted to.

I like to play Reach for fun. I hate MLG, campers, armor lock, and team killers because they ruin that fun. Deal with it.

It isn't a choice, they're born that way.

Idiot doesn't understand the psychology of -blam!- people.

Most of them go through a dumb phase of experimentation and declare themselves -blam!-, then a year or two later they realize how dumb it was and go back to being straight.
