Subject: I'm confused; which Didact do we fight in Halo 4?

I like to play Reach for fun. I hate MLG, campers, armor lock, and team killers because they ruin that fun. Deal with it.

From what I have seen, apparently there were two Didacts in the Halo universe; the Bornstellar Didact and the Ur-Didact. Which one are we in conflict with in the Reclaimer trilogy? What happened to the other one?

Hey, uh, if you like vs threads, then check out this little group right here, if you have the time. It's pretty fun, just hop right in.

It's implied to be Bornstellar, but he acts more like the original.

Here is the Slayer of Cake. May he find piece in death after a life full of violence and unrest battling the tyranny of desserts.

I really need to start reading the books.

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

The OG Didact.

Soon to be breaking news:

US Coast Guard prepares for massive rescue mission after Iranian fleet sinks off shore. Reports say a small thunderstorm caused most of the ships to simply...fall apart.

The Ur-Didact.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Isn't the original supposed to be long dead by that point?

The nanodidact 2.0

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

It's the Ur-Didact, it's not even remotely implied to be the Bornstellar-Didact.

The Terminals follow the Ur-Didact during his battles against Ancient Humanity and the Flood, the most significant bit is when his appearance changes - this is NOT because of the brevet mutation he performed on Bornstellar. It is explicitly stated that he has attempted to mutate into a form that is immune to Flood infection, but the procedure failed.

Silentium's official description states that the Bornstellar-Didact spends his time with the Librarian indexing races, and then leaving her to assume command of the Maginot defences before firing the Halos and leading the surviving Forerunners on the Great Journey outside the galaxy to find the Precursors. The description also states that it's the Ur-Didact who is "pushed into desperate conflict" with the Librarian over the keys to a solution to the Flood problem - we know from Halo 4 that this is the Composer, as the Librarian states that: "The Composer would provide the Didact his solution and his revenge."

It's not the Bornstellar-Didact, it's the Ur-Didact.

Evidence-gathering agents known collectively as Catalog have been dispatched to collect testimony from the Librarian and both Didacts: the Ur-Didact, treacherously abandoned in a Flood-infested system, and the Bornstellar Didact, who accompanies the Librarian as she preserves specimens against the dire possibility of Halo extermination.

Facing the imminent collapse of their civilization, the Librarian and the Ur-Didact reveal what they know about the relationship between the long-vanished Precursors and the Flood.

The Precursors created many technological species, including humanity and the Forerunners. But the roots of the Flood may be found in an act of enormous barbarity, carried out beyond our galaxy ten million years before...
Because of that barbarism, a greater evil looms. Only the Ur-Didact and the Librarian -- husband and wife pushed into desperate conflict -- hold the keys to a solution.

No he didn't, he was marooned in a Flood-infested system by the Master Builder. -_-

Silentium reveals he's alive, but was left for dead in a Flood infested system.

When did halo become soo... intricate?

Bornstellar Didact had human friends and he respected them. Its Ur Didact that's in halo 4. No Ur isn't dead, he survived the master builder's imprisonment but got stuck in a flood infected system. He got a mutation and new armor(the one you see him wearing in halo 4 with force powers) that was supposedly supposed to make him immune to the flood but it failed. Ur's solution to the flood was the composer and prometheans, the librarian disagreed and had to stop him so she ambushed him and locked him up in requiem and left a piece of her consciousness inside requiem which is who john talks to in halo 4.

Bornstellar didact and librarian then proceeded to banging each other and indexing the other races. Mendicant Bias betrays everyone again and screws over the librarian and forerunner forces leaving her stuck on earth. Meanwhile on the ark bornstellar didact is forced to activate the rings and kill all life in the galaxy to defeat the flood including most but not all forerunners. Ur is still trapped in requiem butthurt that his wife is a cheating whore and that he failed and slowly gains more resentment for humanity.

Bornstellar makes humans the heirs to the forerunner empire(which is why humans can only activate forerunner stuff). then takes all few remaining forerunners and leaves the galaxy.

100,000 years later john accidentally revives the Ur didact and man is he pissed at humans.

Tl;dr Ur survived and is in halo 4. Bornstellar left the galaxy.
Damn, thats a good explanation, but so sad to see Bornstellar to leave.

Shows you how much Halo's story has exploded over the years.

Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

Has the Silentium blurb changed again? I didn't know Bornstellar-Didact was going after the Precursors beyond the galactic rim. =/

The process started in 2007 in the lead-up to Halo 3's release when the Didact, Librarian and Mendicant Bias were introduced in the IRIS Campaign. Then they were the main characters of Halo 3's Terminals, the last one of which pretty much said: "you've been stuck in the smaller picture for too long, you have a purpose to fulfil so I'm sending you to the Forerunners."

This was expanded on in the Forerunner Saga, and ultimately culminated in much of Halo 4's more detailed backstory.

That was introduced in Halo 3's terminals and the Iris campaign.
