I ask this question since Bungie is moving on from the Halo IP to create Destiny they may not want or require the same format for their website. Since my group is one of the biggest draws for me in terms of consistently returning to B.net for the almost eight years I've been here, I'm curious to know if it'll be meeting its end soon(ish). Anyways, some official word would be greatly appreciated.

Why would you even think it is a possibility? There's no way in hell groups would be deleted. That's insane mate.

I guess maybe it is, but from Bungie's perspective it doesn't seem to be that crazy. There are a lot of inactive groups from the Halo IP that probably need purging because they were geared towards Halo and have died out since. Also a lot of the themes in the groups are Halo related, at the very least I suspect those will be removed.

Also the group / chapters original general purpose was setting up Halo LAN events and afterwards to create mini-communities of Halo players so if Destiny isn't the same type of game as Halo, which it doesn't seem to be, then it might be easier to strip away the old system and build a new system that is integrated with whatever web-based features Bungie integrates into Destiny.

Love playing custom games?

Well come join Customs Evolved

We are group dedicated to playing custom games, map testing, game nights, etc. Anyone is welcomed to join, and we hope to have as much fun as possible!

I think perhaps groups will be reborn. New and better features, I really hope that Bungie.next will revive groups and activity because most members are not dedicated to staying for the long run. It would be great if groups had more purpose for others to come back to.

I think a huge expansion is awaiting us.

I have a feeling themes will be completely removed, perhaps being replaced by an in-site customizer; incentive for long-term group investment? Everything could use economy systems!

I am inclined to think that they will update it. Definitely won't do away with it.

For some reason I got to the end of your post trying to read more of your idea, saw nothing, and was disappointed. I demand thread!

Halo: CE Anniversary Achievement Idea
C-C-C-CANNON BREAKER!
Let Sgt. Johnson die on Halo.

Why do you think Bungie wants to purge anything and everything that has to do with Halo? They are just simply moving on.

Halo was a great achievement for Bungie as a studio. They aren't going to revamp the site and try to make everyone forget that. And I'm sure as hell they don't want the world to eventually think that 343 Industries created the originals as well.

I'm sure nothing will happen to your group other than a update.

If they're completely re-doing the website, there is a good possibility the groups will be gone/replaced with something else, though I doubt they would intentionally get rid of it seeing how the community enjoys it so much.

I really doubt that. Bungie.net has always been big on groups/chapters. I'd imagine they would improve them greatly for the next site upgrade.

Why not stop by my File Share while you're here?

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

Why would they get rid if groups? Out of all the things predicted for te new website, this one makes the least sense, and I've always wondered why people think Bungie would axe groups.

This world wants to drag you down... And the weight, that guilt they want to hang around your neck, you don’t have to carry it one more step. You think they won’t let you rest, but it’s not up to them. It never was.

Indeed. I hope groups will have much more of a practical functionality with the advent of Destiny. There's a lot of buzz around Destiny having a "social" focus; it just depends how much we can glean about Bungie.next from a single word.

  • 12.29.2012 7:27 AM PDT

There's no way they'd remove groups just because they relate to Halo. There are groups on this site that aren't Bungie related at all. Groups are going to see a huge upgrade if anything.

  • 12.29.2012 7:31 AM PDT

If they remove/reset groups, I will be buttmad. I believe part of the split with Microsoft allowed Bungie to retain any Halo related material on the site, hence why the Flood forum is still called the Flood forum.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

Surely by now Bungie has come to understand the effect that sub-communities bring to the community as a whole. It would be foolish for them to disband private chapters; it's definitely not in their interest. They won't reset groups either, there's far too much history in plenty of them.

I don't see the harm in Achronos explaining a bit about bungie.next to explain the concept.

I wouldn't expect Achronos to reveal the concept, assuming it ties together with Destiny in some way.

I thoroughly doubt it will be so intertwined that it can't be explained without bringing any details of Destiny into it.

Perhaps. But just from history, I don't remember the Webteam ever explaining any changes to Bungie.net in detail.hey're very ... to themselves.

A simple life.

Groups might be converted into something new and better, but I don't think Bungie would disband all of them. Maybe just the inactive ones.
