Original Thread (only if you're curious)
So, due to the extreme favoring of the APN last time, I've tweaked things a bit. Hopefully you all will find it more balanced. Also, I'm just going to say right off the bat here that I'll probably be playing devil's advocate this entire thread.
Tweaked OP follows.
(This is not supposed to be SUPAH-ULTRA REAL YO DAWG, so don't go pointing out why so and such wouldn't happen. Like the title says, this is just for fun.)
The year is 2017. More and more, LDCs (Less Developed Countries) have taken on the reigns of manufacturing, thanks in large part due to lack of labor laws in many of these countries, while MDCs (More Developed Countries) have proved to be the main consumers.
Behind closed doors, the leaders of some of these LDCs have discussed their growing importance in the world and what to do with their new-found power. Many see these changing times as an opportunity to strike against the MDCs they feel have cheated or taken advantage of them, whether it be now or sometime in history.
Eventually, these private meetings culminate in the United Countries for Equality (UCE), a UN lobbyist group led by China. Throughout much of the year, they more and more directly challenge the US, UK, and other traditional UN leaders. This increased isolation leads to tense relations between many countries in the world, with a diplomatic rift forming as more and more countries pick sides. Hoping to restore order and tranquility, members of the more developed world form the Alliance of Peace-seeking Nations (APN).
Finally, in March 2019, after a particularly intense shouting match takes place between the US president and Chinese primer, the UN, already essentially defunct, officially disbands. Two months later, the UCE declares war on the nations of the APN.
Nations in the APN: The United States, Canada, Turkey, All of Europe (excluding Switzerland), Israel, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan.
Nations in the UCE: China, Russia, Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Syria, Jordan, All of Africa (except South Africa and Madagascar), Central America, Mexico, All of the former Soviet republics in Asia, Indonesia, All of South America (excluding Brazil).
All unlisted nations (India, the remainder of the Middle East, etc.) are neutral, and will provide no assistance whatsoever to either side.
Brazil and Cuba are in civil war, with each side wanting to join opposing sides of the war.
No nuclear weapons of any kind can be used by either side due to MAD doctrine.
Which side do you think will win? Which side do you think should win?
(If there are any inconsistencies feel free to point them out and I'll correct them.)
