"Whatever exists, whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent. These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

I think this topic may belong in the Septagon. Don't hold me to that though.

I actually prefer the Bungie.net layout. I find it just as easy to use (if not easier).

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

You are right; this should be in the Septagon, since it is about the forums.

But I like this format. I think it's easy to read, and the button layout is fairly simple.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

Because IPB, phpBB, or any other commonly used software would collapse under the weight of over a million members and an unfathomable number of posts per hour. Not only do we have the main forums, but there are over 100,000 groups, all of which have their own individual forum.

Ah, look at the lonely people...

I found myself wondering this as well. IPB is superior to this forum (or any forum software)... when the forum is small enough. This template fits exactly for what needs done, and it can handle the weight of it all, as Ghandi 2 said.

So it's a problem of IPB being able to support the intense workload? Because they could always have more than one forum. I mean, 7 forums (Underground, Septagon, Halo 2 and 3, etc) should be cake for IPB, and the number of posts should not be too big of a deal. Although my experience with high workloads on IPB is admittedly limited. And then each group or clan or whatever can get their own forum through Forumer or somesuch... Anyway. Just an idea.

From my experience, on IPB, members have one rank, and only one rank. That rank is universal, no matter where you go on that particular site. So if Achronos used IPB, we wouldn't be able to have all of these groups, because each group not only has their own forum, but their own news, their own articles, their own homepage, their own members, their own ranks. From my experience with IPB, we would only be able to have a few "special" forums for "special" members.

No, you can customize member ranks, and make member groups. I admin an IPB forum, and it might not be too easy, but it would be well within the bounds of possible.

Unless you mean a member having more than one rank at a time. That you can't do. But with password-protected forums, I'm sure you could figure something out.

I've been a member of several forums, and I am used to the IBP layout. Invision Power Board is very easy to use, easy to read, and has some formatting features not reallly available in these forums. Almost every forum I've been on is IPB, with the exception of a few, and even those were easier to use than the bungie layout. I'm just wondering if there's a particuilar reason they use this format instead of a different one.

I always prefer IPB. It has more customizeable options and it's easier to navigate topics and forums. It's a lot easier to sort out which topic you want. for some reason, this skin just seems... Crowded.

Thee Warriors!

Best. Mod. Ever.

Crowded? I would have gone with the exact opposite.

What with the bungie thingie intruding at the bottom, the toolbars on the top, and the fact that the actual forum is in the left 2/3 of the screen? Yeah. Crowded. And the topics have scarcely a millimeter between them, and they're so loud it's hard to read. I mean, it works, and you get used to it, but I definitely prefer IPB.

Jeez. So I have to be sure of myself every time? You put too much pressure on me.

I find that IPB forums are too big. There's too much room. No one need that much space to write in.

What resolution are you using? When I viewed this site on 800 x 600 (I think that's what it was) I always thought it was a little crowded. But now I use 1024 x 768, and I don't have a problem with it.

I do use 1024X768. It still seems overcrowded compared to IPB.the entire right thirs od the screen is empty, though...

actually phpBB holds up quite well under strain for what it is; a free open-source forum system. Invision sucks anyway, its ugly and clunky and crap. phpbb is clean and quick and can be expanded massively. I'm not sure on this, but with a bit of tweaking, i'm pretty sure it's able to run at any size and only be dependant on hardware, but i'm not 100% sure on that. But obviously, a custom system is infinitely better than a tweaked basic one. The skin is still crap though, i despise the navigation, it's so roundabout and long-winded.

That's because if it didn't, everything would look stupid and/or stretched. It's just good web design to have a fixed width.

If they choose anything asides from this, they had better not go with PHP. That software is so easily exploitable, it's pathetic.

Exploitable? huh? what can you exploit on a forum?

Lets just say that you don't want to see a picture of some guy's ass at 1080x768 appearing do you?

You see, the entire concept *from what I understand* of the way B.net is structured is for Forum safety. There is too much power for people to abuse with other systems, that is why Achronos chose this one, and re-vamped it B.net style. And personally what is so hard about Clicking on a link to the side of a Page?

  • 07.06.2006 7:44 PM PDT

Skillet was here and referred to himself in the third person.

The Bungie.net forums are custom. This is because of all the groups/chapters. Every member who has made a chpater doesn't really want to get it ruined by some idiot with a way to exploit other forums like IPB. This also keeps pictures completely out of the forums so that they must be linked. That way the moderators can get rid of the picture effectively and quickly.

Not to mention..this way is much purtier!

If they even notice it. the forums I've been on have never had trouble like that. Anyone who did anything like that was immediately banned, and they knew it would happpen. We had 2,000 members, and I never noticed that stuff happening.

Oh, and does anyone know how to get a custom avi? I've got a .gif I want.
