Subject: Forum skin: Why not IPB?

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

I don't think the IPB advocates really grasp the sheer size of this website. Yes, in your experience, IPB held up well--you have never had over one million members. Over 760,000 threads have been made. Multiply that by an average of 10 to 15 posts per thread (which is probably much lower that the actual average, but I'm only making a very rough guess.); you will get a very large number--and that's just in the main forums! IPB would not allow for us to have over 100,000 user-created groups, all of which have their own individual forum that people post in, and some of those groups are very, very active.

And as for the abuse, the members of this forum are ridiculously immature, because Bungie is a large game company, and many people feel outraged and feel the need to take it out on someone when they don't like something.

You can't have custom avatars or images here because the first one uploaded would be pr0n, if not a picture of that user's own ass.

If they even notice it. the forums I've been on have never had trouble like that. Anyone who did anything like that was immediately banned, and they knew it would happpen. We had 2,000 members, and I never noticed that stuff happening.

Oh, and does anyone know how to get a custom avi? I've got a .gif I want.

"2,000 members" but that's not 1 million! IPB could never handle the size of Bungie.net's forum.

And for the same reason that there aren't allowed any pictures in signatures, nobody wants to see your ass as your avatar. (Not that I'm uccusing you of anything.)

I like to Rollick

The Bungie.net forums are the cleanest and most appealing out of all the forums that I have ever visited.

It is possible, that somewhere on the Internet that there are respectable, mature, and responsible Forum goer's, but B.net isn't that place.

That's not entirely true Zee...I know of many people on the Bungie.net forums that are honest, mature and very respectable and responsible! You're one of them. Along with many others...in the private groups...

I always prefer IPB. It has more customizeable options and it's easier to navigate topics and forums. It's a lot easier to sort out which topic you want. for some reason, this skin just seems... Crowded.
Why not IPB? IF IT ISN"T BROKEN DO NOT REPAIR IT.

ok ok...

This site has been using this forum software for quite a while. In that time Achronos has done some major modifications to it... basically making it his own in his own special way... lol.

It is a very user friendly site with large friendly button saying SUBMIT and such on them.

IPB is truly cluttered. Moreso than this. I have admined at IPB, ive owned it. Ive modified it. the code. Ive removed and removed lines and lines of code and changed stuff around so its less cluttered, and still gotten no where to the cleanliness of this site. And I am sure IPB is not as customizable as this forum software.

The fact that it is also integrated in with more than just ideal science, the home page uses a different software altogether. It would also take MONTHS of time to modify an IPB forum into anything similar to bungie... and not to mention the older IPB systems werent very good at all, so im sure Achronos blew right past those when he was searching for a system to use.

IPB is.. for non professionals. Plain and simple.

Everything you can do on IPB you can do here. It's just that Achronos limits what we can do because of problems. Like the post counter. As soon as you can see how many times you posted, you'll think your higher then others because "You are more dedicated".

now, the custom ranks in IPB can be done here. Go to any Private forum here on bungie and you'll see that many have 15 custom ranks all with different abilities in the forum.

also, I always have problems finding the reply button in IPB as it's really small and in the top left corner of a post. I now know because I am using the Ogame board alot and it is IPB.

Also, these forums are completely customizable. You can change anything you want on here and make it look how you want. Lets see otehr forums have an "Unleash The Ninjas" button (The blacklist button with a cooler name).

Basically, you can't beat these forums for User friendliness, Customizability, and the amount of work it can do.

*shrug*

A matter of opinion. and the button thing is all about the skins. With a different skin, you could do that.

well actually, it is possible to have the unleash ninja buttons.

You CAN modify IPB into bungie.. well something quite similar. You would have to know a lot with IPB and php, and how this is all set up.. but its possible.

Ive personally changed IPB skins to make them easier, moved the buttons around and made them a bigger image. And it wouldnt be to difficult to put in the Unleash Ninjas Text.. Its just a Ban script in the form of text under thier name.

IPB is to.. user friendly though. see, I dont know for sure, but I bet this forum software doesnt have that admin section IPB does.. its more all code. Which for Achronos is a good thing, it lets him make the site more custom. You can do more when the software is more open. IPB has a lot of restrictions. You have to edit things from the skin and from the Admin CP to do everything, and some things are still impossible. Certain Layout aspects.

Ideal Science is just better suited for bungie.nets needs. Plain and simple

I've been around these parts for almost eight years now...wow! Maybe I should be concerned about that...

Custom Avatar if you...

* Link your gamertag
* Become a Moderator
* Become a Theme Master
* Become a Bungie Employee
* Become some other person Bungie likes enough to give an avatar space to. This is very rare.

Agreed. It has an easy to use interface and is aestheticaly pleasing. Most forums have to much clutter on top, on bottom, and on the side of the post. And you can easily identify a users sig here. In most forums I have been to all you get is this:

----------
and then the post, and to top it off the sigs are cluttered with large pictures that take forever to scroll by. B.net forums give you this
[hr]
and no large extavigant sigs. The forums are nice, easy to navigate, easy to use, and just plain awesome.
