Subject: Must I Use A Sniper Rifle For The Recon Class ? (BF3)

You're doing fine OP. It's called the Recon class, not the Sniper class due to people that play like you do.

Still, it was a much better class in BFBC2.

Play how you want.

My friend is more of a long range sniper, and a damned good one at that. I am more of a tactical sniper, I prefer urban enviroments and tend to be closer to my enemies but still get the drop on them (like a ninja.)

You come in as the front linesmen, the real "recon" so to speak. Whereas I'm more of a tactical sniper, you are a close quarters recon specialist.

Nothing wrong with that, it's useful in a lot of situations, and can push your team to victory (a well placed spawn beacon can wreak havoc.)

Play how YOU want to play, ain't nothing wrong with that.

Yeah I agree. I'm trying to become a better long range sniper however because I can only hit stationary targets.

I'll agree to that. It was best in 1943 though. There was no reason to use anything BUT the sniper class in reality.

You had the range witht he sniper, you had a good defense with a pistol, and if there was a tank you had dynamite up and ready.

Don't even get me started on that Katana (Japanese side).

I never played that game, having started my BattleField career with Bad Company 1. Apparently it's free on origin though so I may pick it up in the future.

My friends planning on becoming a sniper for the canadian military, so he knows what he's doing with the sniper.

His first time playing the game ever, and his first kill is a 567m headshot on a moving target.

I used to be really good at long range, picking people off at about 300m while in full sprint, but I've since converted to tactical sniping as it's more benificial for the team.

My recommendation for longer ranges is definitely the M98B, but for closer I'd say JNG-90 or SV98.

It's a great game, I don't have the full version but I've got the demo for it.

It's more of a remake of Battlefield 1942, which remains to this day my favourite Battlefield game.

I do that too. I prefer to run in with the M5K because of it's high rate of fire, and quick reload time. If I ever do use a DMR, it's usually the M39 EMR, but with an EOTech so I can get pretty close.

I've never received a message about doing that though. It's probably because I play on a server with mature people, though.

How do you live with the M5K? It's got crazy recoil!

Usually that's not a problem when you're really close.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

If people complain about how you play your class tell them to -blam!- off.

That's my favourite SMG in the game. It's an absolute beast when you figure out how to use it.

Extended mag, RDS and laser sight make this thing godly in the right hands.

I guess I'll give it another whizz next time I'm on. Unlike many people here I liked the PP2000 too.

It's alright. I haven't used it since the patch, but pre patch it didn't kill nearly fast enough.

I miss the pre patch shotgun though. Rest in peace, R870mcs with thermal sight massacre sprees.

Hmm the problem I always have with fast firing PDWs is running out of bullets, but I guess Silent's suggestion of Extended Mags would solve that.

It run's out pretty quickly some times, but then again it only takes around 5-6 bullets to kill, and it shoots those faster than any other SMG in the game (Bar MP7, but the MP5 has a slightly faster kill time than the MP7)

I don't always ban people but when I do I laugh uncontrollably...that's if I was a Forum Ninja.

Truth is a matter of perception.

The Button

If he wants to use the Recon class "properly" let him, but don't let him ruin your experience. I use a shotgun or PDW on my Recon class all of the time, just because one person doesn't like how I play doesn't mean I should stop playing that way.

  • 12.29.2012 7:40 AM PDT

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

Don't, learn to position yourself correctly, use a scope that you can use on close and mid-long distances, and play the objective. Nobody likes cliffwankers.

Playing the objective and using bolt-actions require skill, thats why most people prefer to run around as an assault and AEK or just sit in a cliff 1000m away from the objective, but once you get a hang of it, it's easy to dominate against those "Oh-so-pro" assault whores.

Few examples:

Example 1

Example 2

Check out the objective score, no sitting on a mountain or hiding.

People are always going to complain about how you play.

Anyone who complains about "Misusing" a Sniper rifle is an idiot. Play how you want to play.

Recon?! OMG CAN I HAZ RECON?!
