Subject: Let's talk about killing as a form of punishment.

If it wasn't so expensive and such a hassle I'd be all for it! I mean, here's the way I look at it: The instant you take the life of another human being in cold blooded murder, you forfeit your rights as a human being as well and are more akin to an animal at that point than human. Why? Because you took away the ultimate basic right of another - the right to live, and murders are more often than not animalistic and brutal in nature. Therefore, you are subjected to the same rights as an animal in nature for killing a human - they hunt you down and kill you. In fact, I feel bad for animals in that sense since they're doing what they do, kill and survive or such, but not for humans. Humans who murder know full well the extent of such a thing but do it anyway.

It isn't immoral to punish them justly, the lost their right to life once they took it. Plus they get a much cleaner, more peaceful death than any murder victims I know of (typically).

Life is sacred. If you actively take that from another conscious, living being, you deserve to lose yours.

That's a pretty hypocritical statement.

Im sorry but wasting money on someone questionably worth killing is just stupid

See, this is where I disagree. No one is "worth killing". Even a murderer is a human. And every human has a right to live. And that right is unalienable, and should never be taken away.

So if a killer raped a 8 year girl old. Burned out her eyes, stabbed her, then revived her just to drown her. so he deserves to live?

They should execute them Old Yeller style. Just take them out back after sentencing, and you know....

Execution is needless

I think there's a need.

Right now the current death penalty causes massive amounts of waste and is racially tinged.

Instead, the death penalty should be use for people who are clearly guilty and will never, ever leave a jail cell or a psych ward. Such as the Aurora Shooter. He did it, no doubt in anyone's mind, the whole point of the trial is for his defense attorney to argue for some leniency in sentencing.

-blam!- that. Put him on the express way to the needle in the arm. Him sitting in jail for life, or in a psych ward, is going to cost the taxpayers too goddam much money.

its a lot more expensive to jail him for 10 years, let alone for life. if in jail, the -blam!- gets food, a bed, and bums!

The reason we have an objective legal system is so that emotional situations like that don't stir us into committing an injustice. 'Does he deserve to live' is not a question of justice, it's a question of vengeance.

No it isn't. Maybe it's an old way of thinking, but in the case of murder I believe eye for an eye is the only way to respond. Murder is the greatest crime one can commit, and it can never be reversed. You can't un-kill the victim. It's only right the killer should pay equally.

I respect your view on the matter, but it is flawed beyond belief.

If we kill, we become the killers.

Every time a death sentence is carried out, the government is murdering someone.

I agree. I dont support a death penalty. But I would support a survive penalty. That would entail dropping killers in harsh climates, a hundred miles from civilization, with little to no supplies, and telling them to survive.

like the Russian exiles to Siberia, correct?
or the early colonization of Australia

I don't know the details of your analogy. So I'm not going to say anything about that. but I'm thinking more solitary exile for predetermined periods depending upon severity of the killing.

As a civilized people, we can't.

Imagine being the girl's daughter. Call it revenge, but sometimes Justice and revenge are the same thing. Someone has stolen a life, and the life must be repaid.

The problem with that is our Constitution and legal procedures are designed in such a manner that those who are given the death penalty are automatically given an appeal, and from there it just branches on for dozens of years. You mentioned the Aurora shooter...yes he was clearly guilty, but one reason those safeguards are in place is so that we do find justice, rather than condemn a man in blind anger.

someone who is less than human to begin with. they alternatively house them until they bite it using tax money. SOUND BETTER?

If I was the girl's father, I would hunt down and kill that man in the most brutal way possible. That doesn't mean that I would be right in doing that, though.

And the government needs to do what's right, away from emotional disturbances.

It's been known that life in prison is less expensive than the death penalty unfortunately... Because of the long process and tons of time and money wasting appeals.

Though if the prisoner is given a life sentence in isolated containment I think that's worse than the death penalty. 23 hours locked in a cell with absolutely nothing I think, then an hour to roam a barren cement court (which isn't outside) and back to your cell for another 23 hours. No real interaction. It'd make someone go mad!
