That's right. My plumage is brighter than yours.

Hi.

I signed up for the Navy back in August, and I am set to ship out on April 3rd for basic training. I signed a 5 year contract as to be a hospital corpsman, but if my background check comes through, I am on the bench to transfer to nuke or linguist. Seeing as that won't happen, I am excited for going in as corpsman, and now I am curious as to whether or not any of you homies are currently in the Navy or will be gong to BMT in Great Lakes, IL, in April. Discuss these things with me. It wouldn't be bad to meet up with a Floodian while in training.

That's all.

If you are being serious, I want you to know that you are a tool. I know perfectly well that I am government property once I am in the Navy--it's not uncommon knowledge to anyone. They hand out damn shirts that say "Property of the U.S. Navy" to new recruits. And who is they? Washington? Yeah, they don't care TOO much, but it isn't as if nobody cares when you die--that's a naive thing to say. And when I'm dead, if I die while I'm in the Navy, I won't give a damn whether anyone cares about me. You know very little about my philosophy and outlook on life, so please keep your inane comments to yourself. Tool.

Cool, have you taken the ASVAB already? (I'm oblivious to NROTC protocol.) If I could suggest anything, just make sure you have your debts paid off! That's what's keeping me out of nuke and CTI right now.

And who is they? Lol, okay. I don't really care about you philosophy, and neither does the Navy. You do what they tell you to even if it is wrong. It doesn't matter what you believe, and if you don't then they brand you a criminal. You are free to do as they tell you. Lol at calling me Tool too, the irony in it is so funny.

Officer candidates and Midshipmen don't take an ASVAB because they have a college degree. I've never heard of a credit check or debt precluding someone from rating though.

You're still not saying telling me anything new. That -blam!- is all in my contract, dude, and there are worse things in life than being branded a criminal. I'm a Buddhist and something of an absurdist--I go into the Navy keeping it full-well in front of me what my job entails. And I'm going in as a corpsman--my job is to practice compassion. So right now all I hear from you is, "I want to seem rebellious and cool by regurgitating bland criticisms about the military."

That is not true...everyone in the military takes an oath to the Constitution; anyone, from Seaman to Admiral, has a Constitutional duty to disobey unlawful orders. Obviously this is a grey area for SpecWar and SpecOps operators, but that isn't what we're talking about here.

  • 12.29.2012 1:59 AM PDT

Seem cool to who exactly?

  • 12.29.2012 2:01 AM PDT

Non Nobis Nascimur - We are not born for ourselves.

Have fun. It's actually not that hard, I lot of your time is going to be spent folding things. That and getting yelled at. Remember to learn your general orders before going in, it helps.

In Vietnam they killed children. Now that this country covers up a lot, who knows what they are doing.

Turkey: Okay, gotcha. Yeah, I'm not sure how it will work if you're going in with a degree, then--I'm only going in with about 70 hours. But yeah, bad credit can bite you in the ass. Currently, I'm being denied from nuke because I had last spring semester's tuition handed over to a collection agency--so they don't like that at all.

Tool: You apparently want to seem cool to yourself and the unnamed potential "Other" who might dig your rebellious attitude.

Thanks Smurf :) My brother just returned from boot camp for break, he said the same thing about folding clothes. I gotta ask him about the technique. I think I got my general orders down the first week after I signed up :P

Ahoy! Another idiot! Please review my conversation with the Tool, it will catch you up to speed.

Chaos: you really are taking so much for granted. Vietnam is irrelevant to this decision. And yes, I understand that our government orders its military to do some terrible things sometimes. I'm an intelligent guy, I considered this all for a year before I joined. Don't jump to stupid conclusions.

You said they have an obligation to uphold the constitution, and disobey lawful orders. They've forced soldiers to do it before, and are probably willing to force it again. With today's technology they can very easily keep people from knowing.

It sounded to me like he just meant it in a respectful way. Like how people say they'll die for their country. He's just saying that there's killing for your country as well. Though you're not killing anyone right? Well, you might, there's always a chance.
