You know there are tonnes of topics about wheather there will be more spartans or not and people arguing about it like crazy. Why don't we figure a way to introduce them without confusing the people who have not read the books.
Here is my idea and don't flame me its just an idea. Earth saw how successfull the spartan project was with dealing with the covenant and decided to start making spartans of thier own. It would explain how the chief got his new armor and people would not get confused because the spartans were created on earth. Plus then we would not have to deal with introducing the spartans who were in first strike and just leave them in the books.
What are your guys idea on how to introduce new spartans?

MLG, a few others and I talked about this. We came to the conclusion that a long cutscene at the beginning of the game, explaining and introducing.

How long would the cutscene be? We cannot have one that will be like 30 mins.

A big message appears at the start of the game. It goes something like this:

"THOSE WHO ARE TOO LAZY OR ILLITERATE TO READ THE THREE BOOKS WILL BE HENCEFORTH CONFUSED. SUCKS TO BE YOU.

HAVE A NOICE! DAY!"

Sorry, but I thikn that would be boring. Are people really that lazy they can't read a book? Plus if Spartans are added, just hieght, maybe like in team games of live just have diffrent symbols on their head. No long cutscene needed. Or don't do it at all.

I agree with Moose and August, I don't want more Spartans but if there is some hefty explaining would be needed. Here is what I always say: "Why in the -blam!- would you introduce new major characters in the final game?"

Edit: Okay people, stop poking me. I DON'T WANT MORE SPARTANS. Regardless of what MLG or anyone says, it WILL be confusing. Then they came up with that lame excuse that Bungie is making Halo 3 for the hardcore fans that read the books. In reality Bungie is making the game for money.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

i don't think it would hurt the game. they just need to tie it in effectivly. i still havn't read 1st strike, which seems to be the book that has all of the juciest info.

The way I see it is adding more spartans could be a nice twist to the story instead of be confusing. Plus not everyone got angry and confused when the arbiter was introduced into the game.

Uh, I did. I got very angry, to say the least. Then he grew on me, I like him now. I can say now though that will not be able to happen with four plus other people though. What I said still stands, why in gods name would they introduce so many new characters in the FINAL game?

Openning scene
<cinematic>
We see the Chief pacing back and forth on the deck of the Forerunner ship after it has just taken off. He seems uneasy, and looks all around him and grips his Battle RIfle close to his chest...he lets out a breath, and lets his head droop down.

Fade to black--

The time, date and location are shown in the bottom of the screen as we see a room materialize before us. We see Halsey introduce herself and inform the Spartans in the room of their mission and what the Pillar of Autumn (PoA) was originally recommissioned for..to get to High Charity, and capture a Prophet.

Screen blurs, and then fades to black--

Time, date, and location shown at the bottom of the screen as we see scene come into view. We see the Spartans getting geared up, and Keyes comes down to inform them of Reach being invaded..He leaves and Chief tells the Spartans to get everything ready quickly.

Take control of the Chief shortly to take a break from the cutscene..Chief gets his shields and armor tested. This scene would bring back some nostalgia, and the ability to explore the launch bays before they were damaged when the PoA crashed.

After this scene, we get backinto the cutscene..we see the two Dropships speed out of the launch bay, and split up..

Fade to black as our controllers and screen vibrate erratically

We see the Chief is jogged back into his normal state of mind by the Forerunner Ship leaving slipspace. The exchange of words between Chief and Hood from the end of Halo 2 takes place...

We see Chief, Johnson, Jenkins, Bisenti, and Linda (who was medically dead) escape the Space dock in the Pelican, and get back to to PoA..
</cinematic>

I put on pants for this?

it could be integraded into the first level set back on reach or the unyeilding heirophant. personally it would be awesome to have more spartans in halo 3 as long as it doesnt take away from the fame of the chief.

They're going to have to breifly explain the events of the first two games at the begining of H3 anyways for the people who have never played them previously I would assume, so adding an extra minute or two to explain their appearance doesn't seem like that big of deal. I hope they don't add anymore spartans though.

We could just have them in the story to make it intresting and have them as allies.

how about the begining of the game is a cutseen of back at Reach(or anyother place in the books) explaining the spartans and some of the characters. maybe even a flashback level?? sounds awesome and agrivating at the same time. i think awesome

Here's my idea on how not to confuse people:
Have the game open with a paragraph about how Spartan 117 was trained as part of the Spartan program which was a program designed to counter the covenant victories against mankind. "...John was trained along with 75 others, but not all survived. When training was finished, the Spartans were dispersed to fight off covenant in different areas of the galaxy. However, the Spartans would reunite to fight against the largest invasion force the humans had seen..." Cue the first level of Halo 3: Fall of Reach!. This would be a flashback level (and an awesome one at that) that would be a great way to kick off the game with a bang. The level would end with the beginning of Halo 1, something familiar to most Halo players. I believe this would be a fairly unconfusing way to introduce more Spartans. More Spartans could add a lot to Halo 3: an interesting twist, maybe be involved in a human conspiracy(?), add more emotion to MC. I'm all for more Spartans.

-EDIT-

Sorry DrewbieDew, you posted your idead which is basically the same as mine while I was typing and I didn't see it. Well, we were both thinking of the same thing.
