Okay, it isn't that more Spartans would confuse people (if done properly, it shouldn't confuse many), it is that there has been little to no mention of other Spartans in either Halo: CE or Halo 2. Mabey it is just me, but I don't see four more Spartans coming out of nowhere in the final game, it just doesn't rub me right because more Spartans would be huge. Infact so huge that there would have to be some obvious mention of them in the other two games for more of them to make sense in Halo 3.

MLG, a few others and I talked about this. We came to the conclusion that a long cutscene at the beginning of the game, explaining and introducing.

Sorry, I really don't think twisting, bending and otherwise forcing the story to fit a spartans reunited scenario is worth it, especially when it only serves the purpose of quenching fanboy thirst.
I agree with you, because I don't want any other Spartans, I think it is a terrible idea. No where did I say I wanted or thought there would be more Spartans. Owned.

Halo 1 = 1 Spartan
Halo 2 = 1 Spartan
Halo 3 = 1 Spartan

By this logic before information on Halo 2 released one can conclude:

Halo 1 = Only MC playable

Halo 2 = Only MC playable

As you can tell it doesnt work out like that. Other SPARTANS are part of the Halo universe. Whether they will be in Halo 3 or not is another story. But please use better logic than this to disagree.

There was little to no mention of the Arbiter in Halo CE, yet a totally new character and story came in Halo 2 where an Elite became an Arbiter. You have to assume there will be new characters/story will be told in halo 3. I dont by the argument of becuase it was never mentioned it wont be in halo 3. This should not even be the argument. The argument should be would it make sense to include the other SPARTANs in the Halo 3? There are good points on both sides. I definately think it's possible. On the contrary, I dont think it is vital to include them either.

i always thought a small cameo would be fine; sayin a street battle is being fought, and MC is saved froma falling boulder by anotehr spartan, who gives him a nod, then runs off to do another thing... or like i suggesed in anotehr post, a scripted event in game, where a warthog laden with marines (spartan on turret) drive past you all, run over an elite; and drve onwards, with a boulder crashing behind them so you cant follow.
and even better if afterthis johnson radios in saying "you got competition now HAHA"

Ths is great because its not integral to the story, its only noticable if you look for it (more or less an easter egg), so it will please book readers or no.

Stating 'owned' at the end of your posts is a quick way to acknowledge that any reader would struggle to perceive any 'owning' going on at all.

I state again; it is not worth forcing the story to fit a scenario where spartans could return, such a move would only serve the purpose of satisfying a fan's desire to see them. Nowhere did I mention you or what you want, you clown. It was a direct reply to your post about explaining it with a long cutscene.

Here is where I would have typed 'owned' at the end of my post, if I was a complete numpty.

The best way of not confusing people is to not do it.

Plain and simple.

Yes I've read the book, but it would take away from the game, not add to it.

instead of putting them in Halo 3, bungie should make like a sidestory thing later on to explain everything else that happened in the universe around this time. I'm sure they're not done with the Halo universe quite yet.

As much as most of us want the other spartans to appear in the game it most as likely wont happen. If bungie was going to do it they would have done it in halo 2. It would just be weird (friking awesome but weird) having more than one spartan. It would make halo less of a 'im a strong hero saving the world on my own in the face of impossible odds and im so cool and strong and lonely etc...' and more into a 'Wow i used to be a cool hero but now there's lots of other people like me doing the same thing so im not as cool anymore' game. (if anyone is still following me..) It would lose its halo feel. it wouldn't be halo if there was more than one spartan. I think we'll just have to stick with the books and keep on dreaming about a squad based or something halo game (bungies next project!?)

i.e. the books.

But really the only other games i can see coming out of the halo universe is an ODST based shooter and an RTS.

Well, lets see....

(thumbs through copy of First Strike....)

Ah, ok, the only Spartans of the SPARTAN-II project are

Spartan-117 John (the Master Chief)
Spartan-104 Frederic (my personal fav, reread first chapter of 3rd book)
Spartan Linda
Spartan William

(I can't remember their ID numbers)

I could see Bungie increasing the amount of enemies in missions, with the help of the 360's new shiny hardware, to impossible odds without their help. But as for explaining them to people who haven't read any of the book, I personally like MLG's sort-of mini-script on page 1 of this thread.

(BTW, new Halo book coming out at the end of October. It's called, Halo: Ghosts of Coral. :D )

The survivors of the SPARTAN-II Project are:

Master Chief Petty Officer John-117
Senior Chief Petty Officer Frederic-104
Linda-058
William-043
Kelly-087

Cassandra?

SPARTAN-062 (Halo Graphic Novel)
Two or Three Other Spartans Too Distant to be recalled.

Ackerson's SPARTAN-III Project?

By the way, for those of you saying it would not be Halo, groups of Spartans have gone up against Covenant armies and have been slaughtered. I think that since this game is going to be very, very dark, this would only add to the heroism prevalent in the game because all of the Spartans look out for each other. That would add a lot to the Master Chief's character, as we know (if you have the cajones to read the books and enjoy the story), that he is most comfortable among his own friends. I would like to see them push you out of the way and behind cover as your shields are gone and they fight while you recover, much as you do the same when that situation happens to them.

Spartans and civilian resistance are the two best ideas for Halo 3. Imagine Linda-058, Frederic-104, and yourself jumping into action to save some civilians or even children and get them out of harm's way. Imagine the idea that there would be mass hysteria and panic as rag-tag groups of Marines and civilians make a last stand and lose all hope... until you show up.

Since people would instantly recognize the Master Chief and the Spartans as their true heroes, this would only add to SPARTAN-117's character by showing his leadership side.

Ah, thank you Gunshark for the ID numbers, and yes I do believe your idea could work as well. But don't forget William-043, he's still alive, and squads are usually 4 people.

Edit: What is this Spartan-III project, is this in the books, cause I sure as heck don't remember it.

BTW, I just saw an idea of 4 player co-op, it would make sense to play as all 4 of the Spartans. You would just take over one in the single player game.

You could have MC travel to the place where Ackerson is making the SPARTAN III's where the rest of the Spartans are training them.
People who have read the books will know who they are and others can just think that they started earlier.

I liked the whole Falsh back level idea from page 1. I mean why not?
I think it'd be fun as long as you got to play as Fred. I always wanted to play the one part on Reach where the Covenant surrond the Spartans and Halsey because she has the crystal. Course then the level should be over and give a description of where they went and where Mastercheif went.

Or explain it in the instruction bucklet.

The books didn't confuse people because they explained why the MC isn't the last one alive. The game can use a cutscene or something that can explain the same stuff to the players of halo 3. They did it in halo 2 with the arbiter, no one was confused when you were suddenly an elite, because the cutscenes explained why.

They will probably have around 2 hours of cutscenes in halo 3, so ten minutes of it could explain the spartans. Possibly, flashback cutscenes, of the MC's past? Or maybe the spartans could sudden;y appear, intending on confusing everyone, and then after they save your ass, one walks up and starts talking to you. And since the mc knows what happened but not many other people, the mc and the spartan could explain it to the captain or something like that...

Ya true when the arbitor was introduced I was not confused. I was not like wtf? no I was just like okay. Because the cutscene introduced him properly and your right with a proper cutscene they can introduction. we can have new spartans. I mean this is the humans last stand before they lose and they dam well need all the help they can get. As profecient(sp?) as the MC is he is only human. LOOK I am just saying we have the spartans in the game helping the Chief here and there in some missions but we NEVER play them.

anyone have a logical explanantion as to why the H1 box cover clearly states:

"You are the last of your kind."

i kinda take this to mean that the books and the games dont coincide

other than cortana mentioning reach only once in the very first cutscene there arent any other ties

and i like the way retarded moose puts it:

halo 1: 1 spartan
halo 2: 1 spartan
halo 3: 1 spartan

MLG, you said on the first page that the guys at your discussion had agreed on it, I was reading it, I just didnt have an account then, but you didn't "agree". You and some other guy were going at it, and I agree with that guy.

Don't confuse the games and the books, if Bungie had wanted to make the games like the books they would have done so already. And it wouldnt make sence to introduce all the Spartans in the last game or whatever.

I can't remember what else he said. But seriously, without remembering what he said I think that not everyone has read the books, so it would confuse all the people to introduce them all at once,

Sure you could have some really long cutscene, or not so long but well integrated one, but that would confuse people even more man.

So the people who like the books read the books, the people who like the game play the game, I dont think they should mix.

The unfortunate thing is that the best way to have implemented multiple Spartans would have been to include mention of them, even in the past tense, during Halo 2.

Personally, I don't think there will be Spartans in there. Bungie missed their chance to weave it into the mythos. The same way they missed the opportunity to make the Arbiter feel more "real" by having him take on some humans in game.

The old games did. Not often, but they did. It was either Halo 1 or Halo 2 (or both), but a few marines would say something along the lines of "I can't believe they sent a spartan here!"

There is no way to read that as anything less than two spartans total in the Halo universe.

It just said that he was the last spartan in halo 1 but it could just be an illusion to make ppl think he was the last one. Then Bungie suprises us it with more spartans to shatter the illsuion and give a huge plot twist.
Any how we need more ideas on how to introduce or is what MLG said on pg1 perfect?
