Is writing reviews something anyone can do or are there specific skills you need?

''Misanthropes have some admirable if paradoxical virtues. It is no exaggeration to say that we are among the nicest people you are likely to meet. Because good manners build sturdy walls, our distaste for intimacy makes us exceedingly cordial "ships that pass in the night." As long as you remain a stranger we will be your friend forever.''

''I want people to be sincere; a man of honor shouldn't speak a single word that doesn't come straight from his heart. ''

You need to know stuff.

Unto the Fray we go

You need to be very unbiased and need really good journalism skills to become a good reviewer.

So, sorry Halo 3 purists (AKA 70% of the flood) You aren't going to do a real good job.

If it's written you need to make sure you can use grammar properly, that's less of an issue when doing a video review of something. When you're reviewing you have to keep in mind that the review is ultimately just your opinion, and that you should avoid "bashing" the game if you don't like it. Even if you do like the game, you should always point out both the positives and the negatives. The most important thing is that you view the game objectively.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Basic writing abilities is really all you need. Anyone can write reviews these days.

I be trippin'.

You need good writing skills. That includes perfect grammar and also just writing things that people will enjoy reading. Add humor and character into your reviews, don't just say your opinion.

Also, keep your reviews consistent and unique. Don't give one game a 7/10, another a 3.5/5, and then another an B+. Use the same scale so people can compare things.

Talking about Sweden is an ultrabannable offense.

Too bad being completely and utterly wrong isn't a bannable offense.

Just write what you liked and didn't like about something. There, you have written a review.

Getting people to read and pay you for it is an entirely different matter. You gotta write good, grab people's attention, and be different from all the other millions of reviewers out there.

Someone hasn't been on Kotaku or IGN.

OP no you don't, you just need to either be a girl or be a suck up.

Also, I'd avoid giving ambiguous number scores. If you score something with a number no one remembers anything you said about whatever it is you reviewed, just the number that you gave it. Not to mention you'll avoid a lot of flaming for giving a game a 9 when people thought it deserved a 10. Main point: use words, not digits, to show your opinion.

5. Medal of Honor or Spec Ops: The Line

You need to have good comprehension. Although that isn't required. You don't even have to know what you're talking about these days(Fox News) and don't even have to be accurate(Fox News).

It's pretty easy to do, all you need is some knowledge of the game, NOT to be biased, and try to treat it fairly. You'll need some basic writing skills and good grammar as well, nobody likes reading a review that looks like it came from a 3rd grader.

Why even bring up Fox News? They aren't even reviewers, they're a news network.

Always remember it's a four-rating system, that is, 6.0 being horrible and 10.0 being awesome. 1.0 through 5.0 are rarely ever used, if at all.

Ignore this post, please. If you use a 10 point rating system don't pull this -blam!-.

I don't know saying Mass Effect is terrible because you see someone's ass for half a second and teaches people bad things about sex is a pretty idiotic review.

That's not a review though, that's news that they're reporting on. Inaccurate? Yeah. Is it in any way relavent to this thread? Nope.

Every post whining about the weekly update delays it by 5 minutes.

i'd say its not hard, but i do not have the will power to actually write a review so what do i know.
