Sorry Flood, but this is something you have to accept.

The prequels were not bad at all, but as usual nostalgia and a hatred for CGI (which was just pure innovation and is a technological step forward in the film industry) clouds your judgement. I mean, come on now. That massive battle on Geonosis and the love story between Anakin and Padme was some top notch directing. Not only that, but the final battle on Mustafar between Obi-wan and Anakin was the best Star wars scene ever, period. And the fact that some of you like the lame Sesame Street puppet Yoda more than the CGI Yoda just disappoints me.

What do you think, now that I've enlightened you?

I found them unwatchable, but then again I thought the original trilogy was crap as well.

No, they weren't. Not only were they bad Star Wars movies, they were bad movies in general.

I like to play Reach for fun. I hate MLG, campers, armor lock, and team killers because they ruin that fun. Deal with it.

I agree with some of this. The prequels weren't as good as you make them out to be, but they aren't the complete garbage original trilogy fans keep saying they are.

No, they were objectively mediocre in terms of writing.

Agreed with literally everything you've just said. Especially that the fight scene between Obi Wan and Anakin being the best scene of Star Wars. Well done. Nice to see someone sees sense. I guess opinions but oh, well...

I respect your opinion, but you'll need to explain why. The Phantom menace might have been lacking, but the other two were right on the money. Better than return of the jedi and the empire strikes back ten-fold.

Attack of the Clones had such good dialogue.

If you want to know why the prequels are hated so much, here's why:

Episode I
Episode II
Episode III

This is now my main account. My former account was xKingGhidorahx. I've been on this site since 2009.

The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones were both good movies. However when compared to the originals, they suck.

Revenge of the Sith was an excellent Star Wars movie, accomplishing what the other two prequels failed to do: Explaining how Palpatine became the Emperor, how the Jedi Order/Republic fell, how the Empire was formed, and most importantly how Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader.

They where just as good if not better than the originals.

I was watching Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones last night on Spike. They are just awful movies, not just in Star Wars standards, but movies in general. They're horribly written, acted, and directed. The characters have no depth, motivation really for why they're doing what they're doing. The prequels were made for more money, and to tie everything to the original trilogy, which doesn't have to happen. The plot is not memorable at all, you aren't on the edge of your seat, wanting to know what's gonna happen, there's no tension or suspense. There's good stuff in each of the films from time to time, but they're few and far in between. I hope Disney can save the franchise after George killed it all those years ago.

Seriously? So it's illegal to have an uncommon opinion?

  • 12.29.2012 11:21 AM PDT

The prequels suffer from horribly written characters, poorly developed plot, and overly cheesy dialogue. It isn't a matter of special effects. The overuse of them is only a minor concern compared to the actual writing problems.

  • 12.29.2012 11:22 AM PDT

nothing starts with n.

Anakin is a whiny brat in all the movies.
he does nothing but chew scenery in 2 and 3
the romance was creepy and way too forced
Anakin is a moron despite being a supposed inventor
clones, really?
jango/boba needed more depth/screen time (last mandalorians I know of)
too much palpatine
Anakin is annoying.

I -blam!- ing hate Anakin.

crap, forgot racist steryotype jar-jar binks.

Brainwashing, idiotic media: "hur dur, vido gaems cas vilenc n iz nt gud. dey ned 2 b baned."

Logic: Really? Then please explain how there's violence in third world countries. I guess they're all poor due to the large amount of video games they buy.

Actually OP, not much CGI was used in Phantom Menace. We still had that cheesy looking Yoda puppet in it.

EDIT: Yes, the prequels are on the same level with the sequels. It's funny how some people claim to love Star Wars but hate half of the series. Guess it can compare to a kid saying they love CoD because "al teh futerestic stuph n plosion gunz" but hate WWII CoD because "its stuped n old n i nobdy cers abut teh pst."

Episode 3 is the best in the whole series. At least in my opinion

The only horribly written character was Qui-Gonn Jinn, and I agree that Jar Jar Binks shouldn't have existed. But that's as far as I will go. Anakin might have been whiny but he was what everyone wanted him to be, a cocky hero who has everything taken away from him and turns evil.
